Had a "veggie breakfast" in Exmouth today and encountered an unusual formation: egg on top of the beans.
Okay in my book although the purists may disagree....

The best breakfast in Torquay is in Plainmoor high street. can't remember the name of the place, but walk down towards the castle circus end. Got the lot, fried bread, bubble and squeek and all the usual. A real artery hardener. That's it, when i do get back that's the first place i'm going!!

Beans can't be eaten without pork as far I'm concerned, and certainly not at breakfast!
My ideal breakfast:
Thick back bacon (unsmoked) - 2 rashers Cumberland sausage Two poached eggs Fried tomato - 2 (halved) Heinz baked beans - 1 can, cooked on a low-medium heat for at least 25 mins
English mustard Uncut white loaf - 2 thick slices (as bread, never toast)
Pot of strong tea with milk.
Not that fussed about the formation, but the beans should be sufficiently stewed to avoid cross contamination with other ingredients and usually served on their own at a 'corner' of the plate.

....egg on top of beans is just.......wrong The sumptious fried egg yolk is a vital piece of the breakfast formation and its main role is to enhance the enjoyment of its fellow "drier" squad members....i.e the Fried Bread/ Toast, Bacon, Sausage....maybe even Hash Brown. To allow it to "erupt" in a mass of overbearing beans in Tomato sauce is to waste its delicate flavour........really that plate should have been sent straight back to the kitchen, and the cook informed of her "crass b'fast formation" btw, what the bloody hell's a "veggie breakfast"

btw, what the bloody hell's a "veggie breakfast" No bacon; veggie sausages. A compromise on my behalf today given I'll be spending two nights a week in Falmouth (rather than one) for the foreseeable future feasting on magnificent breakfasts on Thursday and Friday mornings. A report will follow on Friday evening....

A report will follow on Friday evening.... Look forward to it Barty... I had a breakfast at Geno's in Torre yesterday morning (becoming a bit of a pre match ritual after finishing work .......must say it aint half bad. The menu offers the chance to choose a 6, 9 or 12 piece "squad". Hunger dictated that the 12 piece was required, the who to play and who to drop and who to double or even treble up with, was pretty tough to be honest, but decisions were made and the unfortunate but overrated plum tomatoes axed. In the end for the purists.....i went with 2 Bacon, 2 Sausage, 3 Eggs!, Mushrooms, beans, 2 Hash Browns and Fried Bread. Sausages were overcooked but the rest was excellent and the fried bread was served on a side plate, thoughtfully allowing me to slide them underneath the fried eggs myself, which were happily, served completely away from the isolated and not too runny baked beans.

an unusual formation: egg on top of the beans. Totally unacceptable, I'm afraid. The only redeeming feature could be, provided the baked beans are not too runny, that it may be possible to move the egg off the beans before too much damage is done whereas beans on top of egg is an irretrievable disaster. In football terms, egg on top of beans would be like having a ridiculously soft penalty awarded against you in the first minute as opposed to in the 96th minute.

I hold my hands up there Jon! But I don't get them often, and will accept fried eggs. In fact I'll even eat scrambled eggs in an emergency

I bet Wolfie must be wondering just what sort of forum he has joined, but don't be surprised if he gives his take on how a fried breakfast should appear on a plate.

In fact I'll even eat scrambled eggs in an emergency On toast with a lot of black pepper and HP sauce is absolutely fine. Scrambled eggs however, have no place in the purists Full english though
