Can I stick my oar in? If you get caught speeding then it's your look out - you've committed an unlawful offence. On the other side, up here, we have had five roads within a 5-mile radius with their speed limits cut for reasons that have nothing to do with casualties or the road conditions or the surrounding environs - BUT have all had GATSOS installed. Now, I'm not on the council or a servant of the Highways Agency but I can see no logical reason for this. Death on the roads is a hideous occurance and there are more drivers than ever but the Risk Assessments do not stack up and the reasons seem more due to installing cameras and speed traps than anything else. I'm more than happy to receive a hand out of the window flapping up and down - that driver is switched on and aware of what's going on compared to some of the other drivers up here; and a helpful human being to boot! But, I do realise that it's better to get there in one piece rather than not at all. Perhaps the problem is the competence, or not, of drivers on the road these days. Up here an indicator is an optional extra and the proper use of Fog Lights is a mystery to most!

Personally, I think it is as morally corrupt and socially irresponsible to "help them out" by flashing a warning as it is to commit the speeding offence oneself. I personally, I think it is as morally corrupt and socially irresponsible to say let a drunk person get in a car and drive away if you had the chance to stop them. I do not think its morally corrupt and socially irresponsible to indicate to an oncoming motorist who may be just a few miles over the speed limit, there is a speed trap ahead. I wouldn't disagree with you about drink/drug driving Dave nor about your assertion that speed cameras are more about revenue than safety. It's a different matter though, when police officers are carrying out the speed checks; whether using hand held "cameras" or sitting high on a motorway bridge. In my opinion, warning other errant (in your opinion) motorists that they are about to be nicked is little different than blowing a whistle to warn a mugger there is a policeman watchng him..................and seeing as you're travelling in the opposite direction; who are YOU to be judging their speed? I should stick to waving to barmy village idiots dressed as Santa in future if I were you Dave before you get done for aiding and abetting, kerb crawling or grooming!
