Only seven days now until our team Torquay United, start their new league campaign, we all know what expectations we have and there can be no doubt, about the expectations of the whole club.
Our pre season games have come and gone and many have seen them and the results in many different ways. Some have felt we did not play teams much higher, that would have given the team, a much stronger test. Some have felt the team being away together in North Devon, would have helped the players. Firstly to get to know each other as people and also to get to know each other on the pitch.
I have said before we can never read to much into pre season games, we had a poor pre season in our promotional season, while a good one in the Roberts season. We all know what happened in both of those seasons. Yes many would feel better about things if we had won every game and scored a hat full of goals, we didn't, but I'm sure Paul Buckle, leaned all he needed to about the players and the style of play suited to them.
Its easy at the moment for people to look to hard to find flaws, there are some and they will get be ironed out. Sadly there is so much doom and gloom in our country, people talking themselves into a recession and getting worried what effect this is going to have on them. I know in my job, finding work to keep the rest of my fellow workers busy, is getting harder, but I won't start getting to concerned, until my boss asks, if I can take in some washing to help ends meet.
Put the pre season behind us, we have a good squad who has great backing right up to the top of the club. Start today to look forward and count down the days and minutes, until the first ball is kicked. Lets hope we can win our first game and move on from there, but don't forget, all the other teams in the BSP, will have hopes of their own.
Winning our early games will play its part of our gates, even more so this season, as money is going to be tighter. Many fans who travel to away games, may not this season, some will pick the home games they fancy only.
We are football fans of TUAFC, we know we will have highs this season and we will have lows as well, its the Torquay United way. Lets forget all that is happening around us and put our positive head on and help the team off to a good start.
If it starts of slowly don't get to concerned, we really will know if the time comes when we have to show our concerns. Come on United, please get us back to where we feel we really belong.
