So some feel the pre season games, were a let down and felt we should have played teams, who would have been a better test and would have helped the team better prepare for the season, what are your views?

I think they were a good test, I think Tivvy and Newton were just to get them used to playing again, since, we have played Bristol Rovers, Yeovil, a very competent Chelsea youth side and conference south side Eastligh. With the game against Bideford and the upcoming game at Truro, Buckle has had a chance to see all of his players in a variety of tactical set ups and see how they have adapted to the new style of play, against a variety of opposing teams, each posing a different test for us.
Playing teams like Eastleigh, Bristol Rovers and Yeovil is perfect, for me, as they each give us elements of what we can expect to see in the league next season. It would have been nice to play a premiership team this season but it is unlikely we would have learnt as much from that as we would against Eastleigh, who set up similarly to many Conf sides we will face this season. The Chelsea XI game was helpful because we, defensively, delt very well witha team that has a much higher level of movement and ball retention than anyone we will play in the Conf this season.

I agree entirely that the programme seems to have been structured with football preparation being put first before anything else. I would also add that the stimulus of a pre-season tournament has been thrown in this year and that's great to break up the daily grind for the players added to the chance to get them all away for a few days with an evenings "surfing" thrown in - hope they were all in the sea and not in the Internet cafe!

For me it has been a reasonable set of games, especially given the dual workout yesterday of Chelsea Reserves and Yeovil. Not long to go to see if it has worked!
