Tomorrow, Anthony plays for his club A Class Football Academy in the second round of the London FA Under 9 Cup away to long established legends of the game Senrab FC who have been a conveyor belt of some of England's finest players ever since their formation in 1961.
The club derives it's name from Senrab Street in Stepney in the East End and Senrab is the reversal of Barnes............another neighbouring street!
With an alumni of Dario Gradi, Alan Curbishley, Tony Carr and Ray Wilkins who all cut their coaching teeth there and a list of professional players second to none in football; the club carries a gravitas that always goes in advance of any of their teams from under 6s to under 18s.
Look at this: Ade Akinbyi, Lee Bowyer, Sol Campbell, Gary Chivers, Jermain Defoe, Ugo Ehiogu, Jonathan Fortune, Leo Fortune-West, Fitz Hall, Vince Hilaire, Terry Hurlock, Kemal Izzet, Muzzy Izzet, Ledley King, Leon Knight, Paul Konchesky, Kevin Nicholls, Darren Purse, Jlloyd Samuel, Terry Skiverton, John Terry, Sanchez Watt, and Bobby Zamora........................all introduced to the game and coached to a standard recompense with that necessary to progress to the academies and youth systems of professional clubs and even go on to represent their countries.
Like many such clubs, Senrab are fighting an uphill battle just to carry on renting enough suitable training facilities and secure match venues for their many teams.
Just in case you are reading this and live in the vicinity, tomorrow's game takes place at Wanstead Flats on the South side pitches adjacent to Capel Road, Forest Gate E7 ~ nearest railway station: Wanstead Park on the Barking - Gospel Oak Line with a twelve noon kick off; and if star spotting is your thing don't be surprised to see a "face" or two from the above list of former players some of whom take more than a passing interest in the progress of their Alma Mater.
Senrab should be in their traditional red and black stripes and A Class in Blue shirts, shorts and white stockings.
