This was recently sent to me by Simon Roberts...it was the 1976 TBGS team that won the Devon Schools and lost to St. Austell in the English Schools Trophy. I am quite certain that St. Austell were men with beards. Back Row: John Court-Jones, Simon Roberts, Neil Darby, Rob Gilpin, Tony Carter, Maurice Cox Front Row: Stuart Foster, Ian Doyle, Andy Perrett, Chris Gill, ?, Nick Cowell Attachments:

I will also post some other photos he sent me from April 1978 went TBGS made it to the English Schools Under-19 Semi-Final at The Den, Millwall against Roan School. Lost 4-1 and I think there were a few fights in the crowd against the opposition fans from the Big Smoke.

Great comment from Dave Thomas: "you will be laying foundations for these three men to have one helluva good night out together." I guess Dave Golder, Taffy Cannings and Tommy Hood had to wait for their helluva night out. Attachments:

Torquay Community College becoming the Torquay Academy? With sponsorship from the boys grammar school but not, we are told, in the form of a takeover.
And a house system introduced along grammar school lines.
What can this all mean?

Torquay Community College becoming the Torquay Academy? With sponsorship from the boys grammar school but not, we are told, in the form of a takeover. And a house system introduced along grammar school lines. What can this all mean? Ah, this is Michael's Gove's big idea to more or less turn all schools into Academies. In effect, this gives schools independence from the local authority so that they allocate resources and teach the curriculum as they see fit. Basic funding is calculated on a per pupil basis with just under 10% going directly to the local authority so they can deliver services to schools on a pan area basis.... The first act was to give Ofsted graded "Outstanding" Schools and then shortly after "Good with Outstanding Features" Schools the freedom to become academies. It should be noted that this was the opposite end to the previous Labour governments policies of turning failing schools into academies although the present government continues to convert failing schools. The Grammar schools have all converted into academies as the perception is that with their selection policy, they receive a smaller share of that top slice funding as the local authority channel the majority of this to disadvantaged pupils. My understanding is that now all the secondary schools in Torbay and a growing number of primary schools have become or are in the process of becoming academies. This matters in that the local authority have an ever decreasing pot of money to service the remaining schools and cannot be good from an economies of scale point of view. So TCC, want to become Torquay Academy but I suspect (without knowing nothing about the school) that their Ofsted grading is still in the middle, i.e. Satisfactory and they can't do it on their own but there is a clause whereby a school can convert if done in association or sponsorship with another outstanding school!
