Fantastic thread.
Love these old ground pictures - and I really like the "new" Valley as well. It is a fascinating story and a heartwarming tale of how a supporter base overcame what must have felt like endless walls of opposition.
It doesn't seem like 17 years ago that they moved back there - and I can't remember the staged evolution of the Valley - it seemed to sprout-up to the way it is now from the way it was "back in the day" very suddenly but I'm sure that wasn't the case....
The pictures are fantastic (love the terrace - just in the same way I like Odsal)- it is only a couple of decades ago but now feels a totally diffferent era - it was certainly a different way to enjoy football and I personally prefer if that way.
The picture that says the most for me is the the third one above Steve Gritt and family. So many different generations of people - young and old all putting the effort in to help the club that they love.
The only time that I have ever seen that on such a scale at our club was when the meeting of the Riviera Centre hosted by Mr Richardson - so many great speakers and familiar faces. I knew then that although relegation still felt a overwhelming fate for that season then there was hope for a better future for the club. Even a cold case like me was choked when that dear old chap just couldn't get the words out to say how much he loved the club and how heartbroken he was to see it in the state it was!
I've fallen out of love with football in the greater sense and don't really watch many games as a neutral in the modern grounds very often - but this has reminded me yet again that there is comradeship amongst fellow supporters and the end result at 4.45pm on a Saturday is a smaller reason as to why I follow TUFC.
Just imagine what a buzz you would feel being a supporter that has had some impact in the wellbeing of a club sitting there watching Charlton run-out at the Valley. It also reminds me as to how important the TUST is.
