www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/sporteditors/2009/08/the_right_to_highlight.htmlIt looks to me like this will finish off the 'World'/'Player' PTV franchise once and for all. It looks like an excellent web-package with 2-5 min highlights for each match in each league. Does 'player' on .com offer anything more than this does? In terms of the TV coverage, the highlights show will be on at 23:45 to 1am but will be available on the red button until Sunday afternoon which is ideal if I've wiped my mind clean with beverages at the Barley Mow on the Saturday night! Also means I don't have to pay Mr Murdoch anything for the chance to see my beloveds on t'box. Alas, no live games for us unless we do well in the Milk/Paint/Lager cup but I can cope as it seems there's plenty of games I can get to this year. Let's hope the old radio commentary bucks it's ideas up this year... needless to say, I won't hold my breath (because I'd be dead by Saturday anyway)

I think the radio commentary can only be accessed via Player.

Really? It was freely available on the bbc last season... well, it was sketchy at best. I wasn't aware the situation had changed.

Whilst the Beeb are free to distribute their local radio commentaries for the BSP on the world wide web, they are NOT licensed to do so for Football League matches. This is to protect the integrity of distributors like the ones who have PAID for the privilege (and it is a privilege) such as the Gulls Player operators.

That's a shame, I don't really want to subscribe to the player thing as I'd rather see the end of the generic web-sites for football clubs. I see web-design as a bit of a functional art-form and would like to see someone who cared about the club design a proper site rather than a run-of-the-mill clone. To be fair though, my job makes me a bit geeky like that. If Torquay offered me the opportunity I'd bite their arm off! Alas, I think we're tied to that one for some time.
