I think I need to get back to work as fast as I can, I just need a rest what with taking the lovely Carol out this week, to places that has seen us walking miles and having to get everything sorted out for the auction,it really has worn little Dave R out.
To day we were at Killerton House and walked for hours after seeing the house, then we went to two villages and walked miles around lanes. We then went to Sidmouth late in the afternoon and yes we walked more and more miles.
As always a big thank you to all those who have posted on the forum this week, it would be great to see others adding their views, don't worry I have merse under control so you just get in there and get that post made
This weeks winner has won the award once before, it was week 27 to be exact and he is one of our most regular posters and his posts are always a joy to read. The forum is lucky to have him as a member and I just want to say a big thank you from me, for supporting the forum the way you have done.
This weeks winner is ohtobeatplainmoor well done and can you be the first to hold onto the the title for a second week?
Below are two posts that ohtobeatplainmoor has made this week
Post I
0-0 Final score as mentioned above.
It was a pleasant if a little overcast but the pitch was already looking a little more lush thanks to Scott Duff (I understand that Mark Burd the former Groundsman was working at Bovey Travey's ground the other day).
Former Sheffield United youngester (and loanee at Bradford, Brentford and Aldershot) Ben Starosta lined-up at right-back in place of Lee Mansell who is poorly and Hatch is no longer at the club and will not be joining us. He had a fairly tidy game, although in truth most of the play was either around the midfield or us taking-on the Derby defence as the game wore-on.
Line-up
Bevan
Starosta - Robertson, Todd, Nicholson
Carlisle, Wroe, Thompson, Stevens
Carayol
Benyon
This was a step-up on the performance against Bristol Rovers, we were very much more organised and tighter at the back although the Derby attack didn't offer as many problems as Lambert and Duffy. The passing was crisp, we got out wide and troubled them on many occaisions, they were only rescued from conceding a penalty when a clear foul on Benyon was bizarrely not given as the referee clearly would have had to have sent-off Mendy for a professional foul. He blew for a drop ball, citing that one of the Derby players had gone-down injured in the centre-circle!
The second half saw us attack again purposefully. Thompson and Wroe impressed together in the midfield (TT especially showed good distribution to match his usual combatitive efforts), Carayol looked better when out wide and surely not the answer to our centre-forward shortage and Stevens, Benyon and Carlisle caused plenty of problems.
Wroe had a couple of decent long shots and Benyon went close a couple of times, Bevan only had one save of note to make and looked comfortable.
Saul Halpin and Blair Sturrock came on with about 10 minutes left (I think there were others but can't recall). Sills, Hargreaves and a couple of the others watched from the grandstand.
There was nothing in the way of long-balls forward and the way that the players got the ball out-wide was very entertaining (for a PSF!). I think this bodes well for the coming season, although it's way to early to get carried away.
All in all it was a very good performance as we build towards the Chesterfield game.
Post two
I think that there is a perception from quiet a few posters and supporters at the last two friendlies that there is a bit of malaise over the club at the moment - which is totally bizarre considering the huge strides made over the previous two summers.
The departures of five key staff members has been concerning, we have not been successful in improving our team yet and the often repeated rumour of the season ticket offer backfiring has not really gone away.
I think that it is fairly reasonable to say that there are some fringe players that we have under contract that (despite what the official line is bound to be) are not going to be more of an asset at League two than they were at BSP when they played only a handful of games between them. I guess that getting in players that allowed us to have a large squad that was hugely in our favour in the BSP - and to have got those players down to join us required offering two year deals. It is fair to say that the transfer policy was a "risk" that paid-off, so we just have to accept it and deal with the consequences (ie players with contracts that last until next summer that perhaps will make very little in the way of appearances).
The fact that we created far better facilities at the club than there ever have been with the creation of the Gulls Nest and created a far better infrastructure to serve a professional football club than there had been in my entire time as a supporter isn't lost on me at all. The fact that we have a stable (hopefully!!) and presumably democratic Board and ownership of SUPPORTERS holding the club together at the apex is more than I could have believed a few years ago.
The club have not been hugely forthcoming in communication with the supports. It's what a lot of people really like to know - and what's more, Alex Rowe is a FANTASTIC speaker - he is realistic with out being Batesonesque and reassuring. I would say that a fan's forum would be something that would be very popular - it certainly would perhaps give some clarification as to how things are going and perhaps the rumours that circulate as to cash-flow problems, lack of room for manouvre in the transfer market for Bucks and to perhaps
I'm still absolutely delighted that we face the next chapter of our history back in the football league rather than the BSP - especially given that it was such a huge task in itself and a very close run thing. There are, however "supporters" that have ceased to attend in the last couple of years that need more convincing that the club really is giving it a go.
I cannot understand why the support levels sank so badly last season - we were in the race for automatic promotion with five matches to go this time, rather than last season when it more or less was over by March. Even the Burton and Histon home matches were met with a modest rise in support. As graystar007 says " This Club deserves better this season and the local population should be proud and show it!" - I just hope that the Board that saved the club are backed next season by those that have drifted away.
