Is it me or does he look the least impresive of Buckles signings? Isn't Buckle quoted is saying that he was going to use him at centre half? Didn't he play centre half for Forest Green at Plainmoor when our forwards could without any exageration have scored ten that day had Lee Phillips not left his shooting boots at home. Having had another look at him at Tiverton there is no way he is a central defender. He may be a midfielder but we seem to have a slight problem in midfield ie we have too many players who can play there. It seems the likes of Adams,Hargreaves and Brough for example would not be very effective anywhere else. More worryingly the comments coming from those at the Newton Abbot game seem to suggest Brough wasn't too clever at the back in that game either !!

Out of our whole squad I I have been least impressed with Brough in pre-season, and think he will struggle to hold down a place in the starting eleven, leaving in may opinion a spot available next to todd in the central of defense, who will step up to take that spot, well I just do not know!

On Todays performance I would pick Woods ahead of Ellis, I know Woodsy hasnt got the pace anymore but he reads the game so well and he was the only one back there talking in the 2nd half today.
Brough did Ok today at CM but still found himself in no mans land too much to make any real impact in the game

I think you (Mickyflash) are being very kind to Brough. Personally, i thought he was awful today, constantly gave the ball away, i wonder if he is really the player that we have been led to believe he is.

Out of our whole squad I I have been least impressed with Brough in pre-season, and think he will struggle to hold down a place in the starting eleven, leaving in may opinion a spot [glow=yellow,2,300]available next to todd in the central of defense, who will step up to take that spot, well I just do not know[/glow]! In my opinion this position is the one that looks least effective at the moment and doesn't seem quite right. As said before, Brough does seem to have struggled to have left a lasting impression on many. He hasn't exactly screamed 'wow' yet, however maybe we should give him more of a chance to show us what he is 'made' of -after all he was FGR captain and has played in this div for around 5 years now. Maybe it's taking him a while to get going. The other options of Woods and Ellis do seem rather bleak. Woods, with no disrespect, is getting past it. I mean, what does he actually do now other than push his opposition, shout at our players and hoof the ball in to touch. As a 'newcomer' (supporting for the last 3 seasons) I haven't seen the Woods many know and love. It seems sentiment may be clouding many people's views on him now. Ellis, well although he's OK, he's nothing more. He seems 80% prone to mistakes. Does nobody else worry when he has the ball? He often seems to let opposition freely sneak past him. Whilst he does appear excellent in the air, he seems quite vulnerable on the ground, and both him and Woods are too slow off the mark. However, maybe I'm being a little critical, after all Todd also has been prone to several mistakes, some very costly, and he is still well respected and in my opinion still deserved of his starting place from last season. So whilst this sums up the obvious options, it doesn't exactly provide an answer. Mind you, could Hargreaves become the new CH?

chipnicker, I also worry about Ellis, he really seems to just make mistakes. Woods was a great player and still is, but lacks pace, but he was very vocal today, just what you need in a captain.
I think he will still do the job for us this season, with Todd along side him and maybe Hodges there as well, who would also be able to help with the cover etc.
I think, we may be like last season, scoring plenty, so may just have to have some put past us as well.

Mind you, could Hargreaves become the new CH? Well the manager certainly seems to think so...............read his comments on the official site. Significantly too, whilst acknowledging his oncoming "difficulty" in selecting aside to start the season he refers to the need to select the most effective side rather than the eleven "best" players.
