What happens to my £10.99 a month I pay to Setanta ? Do I need to ring them to cancel my subscription, or do I let Mastercard know ? Anyone in the know please explain the situation to me. I think I can safely say Setanta won't last much longer having gone into administration. I assume the plug will be pulled very soon. There still seems to be some sport on there today.
I was amazed to read about their huge debts, £50m owing to the Inland Revenue etc. Shame really because I enjoyed it while it lasted, and I can't afford to have Sky.

I believe they are no longer in position to take money from any subscriber in the United Kingdom since in effect they no longer exist as a business. But if you want to be on the safe side, just cancel your direct debit. No idea what happens to my own subscription for Racing UK and ESPN America which were both part of the same package, but Racing UK are going it alone at £20 a month, forcing subscribers to take a £9.99 watch online package even if they don't want it. No chance of me doing that even as a racing fan. Might even save me a few quid in the long run to spend less time in front of the goggle box

It's the same for Liverpool FC with their club TV channel now only being available on line as they were utilising Setanta to get their service onto air and it could well be the same story for other club TV stations.

But if you want to be on the safe side, just cancel your direct debit. I may be wrong but think that legally a direct debit can only be cancelled by Setanta and as they are no longer trading it becomes somewhat complicated Direct Debit is YOU instructing the payee (Setanta) permission to collect any amount they deem due from your bank account for which YOU have given them the details. YOU (as the payer) are perfectly at liberty to instruct YOUR bank to withold or permanently cease to release money from YOUR account to any specified payee at any time WITHOUT incurring any administrative costs (these MUST be borne by the payee)...............after all it is YOUR money! Whenever I have done this and the payee squeals, I always instruct them to provide me with an invoice for services provided and I will pay within 28 days on receipt of such invoicing being to my satisfaction. ~ it's amazing how often payees are unable to do this and true to form this is the answer I received from Setanta. Sorry Setanta no invoice (which you will need to provide if you take any action against me) = no payment!

I made a couple of phone calls today to try and sort this out. I phoned Setanta but there is no-one to speak to anymore ! There was a bland sort of message saying that they have finished and to go to their website for FAQ's. I checked Setanta's website and there is no FAQ's there.
So I phoned Barclaycard to ask for payments to Setanta to be stopped. Their reply was that Setanta have informed Barclaycard they will not be taking payments anymore from customers. However Barclaycard advised me to check my statements, and if Setanta still charge me then to either write to Setanta or e-mail them at setantauk@setanta.com. No mention of Barclaycard stopping it there and then for me.
I suppose I will keep an eye on my Barclaycard card statements and take it from there.

If any bank showed that attitude to me I would close the account forthwith so that they don't have any of my hard earned money to piss about with!

Sometimes difficult to close a credit card account if you owe them money! Legally, any company that has gone into administration (in this case Setanta) cannot continue with any previous contracts and terms and conditions without the explicit agreement of the other party. So, Setanta (or rather their administrators) cannot continue to collect any subscriptions that might be due after the date of administration unless you agree with it - not likely! As for Barclaycard, if they did debit your account "after the date of administration" they would have to refund it - it would not be up to the account holder to arrange this.
