Derided on here as a circus act last November/December, Congratulations to Danny Stevens for his award as Conference Young Player of the Year. (see .com) Like Captain Marvel, his performances at the back end of the season were superb. Improved defensive work was noteworthy, though of course it is his ability to find a defence splitting pass and run past defenders that give us that extra option. He will thrive at the next level. Of that I'm sure. Stand Up Mr. Stevens. Well done.

Hear hear. Whenever Danny gets on the ball I have an expectation of an exciting outcome, matched with an excellent workrate, in my opinion he is a deserved winner. The only downside to him, although some part of me feels unfair in raising it, is his physical stature. Too many times I have seen him bullied off the ball or out of the action by some big lunk. I understand that this situation is constantly being worked on and feel sure that PB will get him going in a stronger (ahem) direction. But all things considered I look forward to seeing our tiny terrier wreaking havoc on those sluggish League 2 teams. Congrats again to Danny and his training crew.

As the one who coined the phrase "circus act" may I add my congratulations to the player. I'm not pretending I was ever over impressed with his effectiveness in the team.............................I wasn't; but I do recognise the huge strides he has made in his game manifesting itself in his very effective end to last season. My reference to "circus act" was more a connotation with the way that those little clowns are so popular with the kids when they tumble into the ring to torment the "big clowns" than with anything else as it seemed to me that his popularity with so many lay in the fact that he was pint sized than for any legitimate footballing reason. May he continue to improve and at the same time prove people like me wrong who reckon his tiny stature are too much of a hindrance to his full effectiveness in the professional game. By the way, I would like to proffer the view that players of such small stature can be more effective the tighter the situation they are asked to operate in and it is for that reason I would prefer to see him operate inside the midfield where he can really get under the feet of those big defenders rather than out on the flanks where he DOES seem somewhat challenged in the armoury required to motor on past rather more mobile fullbacks. However the manager chooses to use him, Danny Stephens DOES give one hundred per cent effort for one hundred per cent of the time and that's the sort of player I want to see included in the Torquay United squad every week!
