A lot seems to being made, about the fact that Green has some sort of knee injury. He was wearing a bandage on Saturday and I was talking to an Oxford fan in Yeovil, the other day, who said he was often, injured and not playing.
He looks good and pacey, but if that is true about his injury problems, might that be a reason, Oxford let him go. I just wonder if signing him, turns out to be a gamble, at least we would have the cover I suppose, if that was the case.

I watched the first half of the game on Saturday in line with the edge of the penalty area, which meant i had a really close view of Green several times, and i could be mistaken, but i did not see a bandage.I'm sure a bandage would have stuck out like a sore thumb on him. Mind you there were a couple of times when he when down under a challenge where he got up rather gingerly, but i put that down to him being a bit tired, which he was towards the end of the half.

pc crash and lost post, try again As you know I was not at the game on Saturday, but I bump into a van driver most mondays in Chard, a season ticket holder, who said he was. Strange but the question is still the same, a gamble or not.

You would have to say GAMBLE. With his well documented injuries, you would be surprised if he didn't spend at least a bit of time on the sidelines. Mind you this season we appear to have adequate cover.
The trouble with an injury prone player is also the amount of training they miss. Means they rarely get fully match fit, cant produce for the full 90 minutes and that makes it more of a gamble.

Yes that was my view as well, so it does make you wonder, why managers take these gambles. If you felt he would get you 15 or 20 goals in the games he did play, then maybe you might think it was worth it.
On the other hand the risk of him not playing as many games as you would have liked and the fact you have to pay him every week, would that be a wise decision to sign him. I can only think,Paul, believes he is past his injuries, or the hope that the games he does play in, he will make match winning contributions. We will have to wait and see.

As far as i was aware Darren Patterson was desperate to get him as a perminent signing and Green choose to join Torquay. Therefore, that shows that we were not the only club willing to take a gamble on Green.

Yes that was mistake on my part, to say they let him go, just not sure how hard they really pushed the boat out to keep him. My own views are that I believe he is worth taking the risk on, my only worry is that clubs running on our level of income, can not afford to have players, spending half the season on the treatment table. We have had far too many players over the years, who the club has paid wages to, only to get very little in return out on the pitch.

I'm sure Merse the memory man, could come up with a very long list, on the sick note players we have had over the years. It is one thing that I have always felt, I could never understand, I mean the time some players remain on the treatment table. Some I have felt, stayed on it, so as to avoid being picked for the squad, for what ever their reasons. I know I will be told, pro players are more fitter, bodys and muscles finely tuned, but surly that should be a plus for them. I know from all the years watching my son play, the times he played on a Friday night and got hurt. Played the next day and got hurt again and maybe blisters on his feet the size of Torquays balloon. Still you would not have been able to stop him playing on Sunday and yes he still played really well and played his part in the team. Yes a manager needs to put out players who are a 100% fit, but really do we molly cuddle players far to much these days.

Injured players .......hey?...... Players not pulling their weight.......? Rumour has it that the first words uttered from Terry Waite after his 5 years of captivity were ".... is Alan Hay fit?" ;D ;D

Yep Alan Hay has to be the "daddy" of them all.
But there have been a few over the years that were "missing in action" for long periods.
Off the top of my head
Paul Holmes (MkII) Chris Brandon (silly boy!) Carl Priso (that toe!)

As a matter of fact we signed Green from Cardiff City, NOT Oxford. He was no more Oxford's player than Chris Zebroski was ours as he was there on loan last season. Oxford made him an offer which he verbally agreed to before being made a better offer by Paul Buckle. I've heard from a journalist that Oxford's problem in attracting signings is down to the poor image their manager Darren Patterson gives of the club with his poor communication skills and lack of personality whereas with Bucks it's quite the opposite!
