Well after our kind mayor Nick Bye let the travellers stay in the service lane at Clennon Valley over the weekend a whole new group moved onto the playing fields at Clennon Valley.
During today the size of the camp has been growing steadily and now once again court action is required to get them to move on.
When are Torbay Council going to take the simple steps required to prevent travellers being able to get onto our public land, other councils put measures in place, maybe some of the money spent buying stagecoach 11 new buses could have been used for a fence or two.

Would it be ok if they all had painted wooden caravans pulled by horses, you know the ones that are a joy to see? Or Is it ALL travellers you refer to?

There are New Age Travellers and Gypsies, the two should never be mistaken or compared in my opinion. I`ve never heard of or seen a Gypsy tarmac a driveway or offer to fix your roof tiles and guttering, and I`ve never seen New Age Travellers trying to sell lucky heather, I`ve also never heard a Gypsy with an Irish accent! And I just love stereo types, I need to after the amount of stereo typical crap I get on here and everywhere else, and no I don`t have any shrimps and I`m not lighting the BBQ!

There are good and bad people in all walks of life.
I have met some nice travellers and some arsehole travellers in my time.
There are even some people who see ALL football fans as holligans.........are they right to hold this belief?
Take people as you find them not because of the clothes they wear or the lifestyle that they lead.
A bloke living in a painted caravan could be a nasty piece of work, just as some new age traveller would not hurt a fly.

What gets my goat up is the apparent way they wish to seek an 'alternative' lifestyle but without the hassle and hardwork that this may in-tale.
Why does the law allow these people (lets not tag them with names) to get onto private land (breaking locks and gates on their way) and set up 'camp'? The first think the Council have to do is send a Welfare Officer to the site to check that all is okay? If the Council manage to move them on, there is nothing to stop them setting up camp somewhere else and so on.....
Why is there not ONE law for the land that applies to all people from ALL walks of life? If I drove my car onto Churston Common (or any other similar area) with a borrowed caravan and decided to have short break holiday and leave the area in a mess (which last year cost the council approx £1500 to clear up) the Police would be up within the hour and I would probably be forcibly evicted from the area.
I for one would love to know why these things are allowed to happen.

Take people as you find them not because of the clothes they wear or the lifestyle that they lead. A bloke living in a painted caravan could be a nasty piece of work, just as some new age traveller would not hurt a fly. Jim the title of this thread was A Traveller Who Is A Joy To See because he is a joy to see if only because I know he has survived another winter. I have now talked with three people who have all talked with him and all say he is a well educated man and can't be described in any way as being a nasty man. The worst crime he will ever commit(if it is a crime) is catch some rabbit for his tea and kill it so he can cook it. There is a world of difference to this man than those who come here and break the law by parking large caravans on our public land. One thing about my man is when he leaves you will find no trace he was ever there. He cleans the site up and you won't even see any ashes from his fires he uses to cook the rabbit No one is saying all travellers are bad people, but please remember how they left Clennon Valley last year, in case you have forgotten it was a bloody mess and it was not just rubbish they left behind. I can't believe you could think its just fine to let these people get away with what they want. The extra 12 caravans that went onto the site last Thursday came down on the M5. I nearly crashed into them at the spit for the A30 and the A38. They were all over in the second lane and 10 of the 12 did not have number plates on their vans, one did and the other one had some letters and numbers wrote where the number plate should go. As Phil says it is one rule for them it seems and one for all those who live by the law. The 11 were all following the first caravan, he was on the phone while driving and I suspect was getting instructions as to how to get to Paignton. By now I was in the left hand lane of the A38, with the two lanes of the A30 split on my left. Without any warning or indication the front caravan driver swung his 4x4 and caravan right into my space in my lane, forcing me to swing out into the second lane and I forced a car to have to break hard to prevent the driver from ramming into the back of me, I had to take that action as the traveller and his van were going to hit me for sure. Can't see 12 wooden vans pulled by horses nearly causing a major pile up Jim.

Thank you Dave this is exactly the point I`ve been trying to put across the whole time, there is a vast if not massive difference between the two groups, and they are two groups NOT the same people!

You got any spare grass just up the road where you live from me JimD? if so seeing you don't have a problem with travellers, you will be happy to have the 8+ vans that have moved into the park next to KFC just 150 yards from my home.
My neighbours are very unhappy and also very concerned, the police have called at all our homes warning us to keep door and windows locked, remove everything from our gardens etc.
How nice after such a hard week at work and really looking forward to a relaxing weekend to now have to be concerned and worried about the security of my own home.
Still it only took two weeks to get them of Clennon Valley, I see they have wrecked the football pitches and three skips have so far been filled with their rubbish. I hear the lakes are contaminated with you know what, but I'm sure your happy that the local tax you pay is being spent on such worthwhile things.
Why were they not escorted out of the Bay? well at least Nick Bye will be happy as they have not gone back outside his mums house on Gampton Common.

There's nothing to stop them Dave going back up to Churston Common for a couple of weeks. I guess them being a 'minority' group equates to them being untouchable. When the Rozzers/Council turn up to ask them how long they are staying. How do they (the Pikeys) prove who they say they really are?? Or is it by using one special word (Travelers) it opens up an avenue of delights - free parking in special areas which the local commoners aren't allowed to stay, welfare checks, welcoming hamper of goodies and if its okay with them the Council will clear up the mess. If anyone has the answer I would really like to know... Sorry to hear of your problems there Davo. It's coming to a fine state of affairs when law abiding folk are warned to lock their doors. You couldn't make it up. They should pay some local farmer to driver past with his dung flinging machine and cover them in a shower of Farmer Tulleys finest.

Phil that park was closed some time ago as Nick Bye gave it away so houses could be built on it,the gate was chained and padlocked and the travellers have broken the locks to get into the park.
I understand the building work was starting this coming Monday, while I was upset that Bye took the park away from the local children here( Carol and yourself Phil played in that park,) I now can't wait to have it built on.

I can see them from my house and have no problem with them being there. But then again I am not a bigot and prefer to treat people as I find them.

Told you they are low life scum, ha de ha de ha de, to compensate the Council with what they have spent on legalities and clean ups the filthy pikey scum should have there caravans and vehicles confiscated and then sold, then they should be escorted of the edge of Lands End! Piss taking barstards, thats what they are!!
