Yellowstew, its fine to put quotes on the forum from almost anywhere as long as you give credit to where the quote came from and you did that, so nobody will come knocking on your door anytime soon, unless you have been a bad boy somewhere else.
Can Tim Sills cut it in division two? Well I say why not? He has had to deal with so many big and ugly and often not very nice defenders in the BSP during the last two years. I really don’t think there are any defenders he needs to fear in league two, I know a few felt there were one or two he did not fancy to battle with in the BSP and I saw one game where that looked the case, but on the whole he has got stuck in where he has needed to and won his fair shares of such battles.
While I have said in the past about keeping our forwards up when we are defending corners and set pieces, I did concede that Sills is needed in the box when we do have to defend corners etc and has been very effective in that role when called upon.
I also believe that under Buckle and more so last season, we have seen a much harder working Tim Sills, who while not having great pace will cover as many blades as grass as any other player on the pitch.
There are a few weaknesses he need to work on and we also need to change the service we give him, most of the service has just been long high balls and the best he can hope to do with those are just flick them on forward.
The problem is that the fellow forward can never be sure if the ball will fall to the left or the right and getting his run correct will be more luck than judgement. It has been stated on this thread how at some games he showed that by having the ball played up and chest height, or to his feet, he was able to do more with the ball.
He is big and strong enough to keep a defender at his back and getting the ball under control by his feet, we will be able to see and be more aware of where is fellow team mates are and have a much greater success rate of getting balls to his team mates.
We all know that if you put good balls into the box from our wide that Tim will always stand a good chance of scoring with his head, it’s just his shooting from open play or in and around the box he really needs to work on.
If I was the manager I would be concentrating on getting the defenders and midfield players working on getting better balls up to Sills(not so high) and getting the team to hit hard balls to Sills that he needs to hit first time toward the goal.
He can hit them hard enough just needs to work on his timing and yes the direction the ball will go in.
