No real surprises. Hargreaves, Robertson, Rice and Benyon offered new contracts. Dsane and Christie are out.
Considering Bevan came to us due to a lack of first team action and Buckle generally plays without a sub goal keeper, I think Rice makes a good no 2. /squad player.

Indeed, no surprises and - at this juncture anyway - no indication (not that there needs to be remembering this has been an announcement on the "contract situation") that some players may be "open to offer" either at their own request or at the behest of the club. Given the club's welcome enthusiasm to make new offers to several out-of-contract players it's tempting to read the dice has landed in such a way that contracted players may need to leave to make way for any new arrivals. Hence some of the speculation about Brough, Ellis and Green. This could be nonsense of course but, should three or four players be moved on, it'll be revealing to see if the replacements are top-of-the-range, squad additions or a mixture. I suspect there's still a lot to happen beyond the obvious news of the departure of Messrs Dsane and Christie.
Other than that I guess the value of Martin Rice is that of a second goalkeeper on the training pitch who can work happily with the first choice and act as emergency cover if required. Perhaps his wages will be subsidised by a similar loan arrangement to last year? For him, I guess it beats a part-time contract with Truro and working at Marsh Barton during the week. Good luck to him.

I think you're absolutely right - no surprises that they were the two released outright and that Robertson, Benyon and Rice were offered new deals. I guess that it all depends on the offer made to Hargreaves as to whether he will accept.
I can't recall Adams getting a 2 1/2 year deal when he signed though.... I understand that he will be staying to coach though.
Questionmarks hang over the futures of Brough and Green - having seen some hopeless performances in pre-season and at FGR in the Setanta Shield (!) I can't really say I've seen enough of him but it doesn't bode well. I'd be happy to see Green go out on loan for 3 months and see how that goes.

I recall from the dim and distant past that Stevie did sign a 2.5 year deal when he joined originally.

The end of this coming season back in League 2, yes Rob. Hard to believe it's only 18 months since Steve signed...seems like he's been here forever!
From what I can remember he signed at the same time as Roscoe and had an extra year to the (not dearly) departed striker/winger.

I am reliably informed that Buckle didn't sign anybody during the January 2008 transfer window!
