We first started having sky tv over twenty years ago now and while I feel it has been good for sport in some ways, I do feel it is guilty of taking away some events, unless you are prepared to pay some big box office price.
I do have a good reason why I feel this way, but first I want to say how sky as gone about taking more money from its customer, while not delivering much else for the extra outlay.
When we got sky it only had sky sports one, there you could watch all the matches they covered, not long after that that gave us sky sports two, but guess what you had to pay extra and as they then put football matches on one and two, to see the same amount of games you had to pay for the extra new channel.
Then they started putting matches on sky prem plus and yes you had to pay extra again for the matches shown on that channel, but its even worse now as to see those games you have to pay Setanta as well.
While its true you will see sports on sky that you would never see on normal TV and we get to see more live football. I'm fast getting to the point that I wonder if Sky really has been good for sport. Their money for football only goes to the big clubs, well most of it, but what makes me made is their box office events that cost around £16 plus.
We have watched and enjoyed seeing a young British boxer learn his trade, we have been able to follow his development and watch all of his fights. Yes I'm taking about Amir Khan, who's next fight can only be seem on sky box office.
I would expect its all about money and you can't blame Amir Khan for tying to get the biggest pay packet for a fight. Doing what he does for a living means It could all end in the next fight.
I just feel that for most people following this young mans progress has now come to an end and sky probably offering the biggest amount for the TV rights are to blame in my view.
You always got to watch the big fights in the days before sky and a part of me wishes we could go back to the days before they existed.
