So now that I have seen the new boys play this is the team I would start with. Todd and Woods to good pros, who will give the experience needed at the back.
Sills to start with Green who can play together, Sills will I feel enjoy much better service, having Green, who will run the channels and make the space, he will also get good balls into Sills.
The midfield picks its self for me and look at the players that are left out, good enough to all start really, but you can't pick them all.
GK TBC RB Mansell LB Nicholson CB Todd CB Woods CM Thompson CM Wroe RW Carlisle LW Hodges CF Sills CF Green

After seeing the Rovers game my ideas have changed. Here's my new XI. GK Poke RB Mansell CB Todd CB Woods LB Nicholson CM Hargreaves (C) ( Wroe can come in for Hargreaves when he tires toward the end of games and during periods of many games in a short space of time) CM Thompson LW Stevens RW Carlisle ST Sills ST Benyon
Bench: Rice, Wroe, Hodges, Carayol, Green

Well tufcwewillbeback , my team differs a little from yours. Hogdges showed against Rovers, that he was much better playing LB than Nicholson, I was torn between putting Stevens or Carlisle on the RW, but Carlisle just got it. Up front it has to be Green to start, more pace will score more goals and will run out wide better as well, getting in good balls to Sills.

However I think Carlisle has already showed he will be a lot more affective on the Right hand side than Danny, I like Danny, but I have been really impressed with Wayne Carlisle in the 2 games Ive seen and I am already tipping him as the dark horse for Player of the Year next season... Am I getting ahead of myself? ;D

Maybe just a bit micky, he was the player I loved to hate when he was at city, but only because I just liked him as a player and he was playing for them.
I think there could be far to many players who could all be fighting, for that title. Green if he gets the goals we hope he will, Carlisle, because I think he will be a fans favorite, Carayol because I think he will keep us of our seats( not that we got any on popside) and Thompson, for his class play. Would not like to bet on any of them, at this stage.

I think that is the best pairing. Agree about hodges at LB in front of nico, although i,ve had some stick about nico not being the part etc. so we shall see! can't wait!! ;D ;D ;D

I HATED Wayne Carlisle when he was at Exeter. He just seemed so slimy and cocky, although yes a good player. But as he scored them goals against us in those vital games it just made me dislike him even more. Oh what a difference a couple of months can make. Although I hate to say it, I am warming to him! He does seem an excellent player with good use of both feet. He makes himself available at EVERY opportunity and confers well with the other players. I wouldn't be surprised if he did turn out to be player of the season, however much it pains me to say it!
My starting 11;
GK - Pokey! RB - Mansell LB - Hodges CB - Todd CB - Hargreaves? CM - Thompson CM - Wroe RW - Carlisle LW - Stevens CF - Sills CF - Green
Bench - Rice, Benyon, Carayol, Nicholson, Robertson

I made a post ages ago about the same thing and how funny it is, when a player plays for another team and for some reason, you just dislike him. Then he's playing in your team and suddenly you love the guy, its strange but true.
I always felt he was sometimes a dirty player at City, now I will watch those challenges go in with glee. ;D ;D

Don't they say a team is only as good as its 'bench' I think that will make us a good 'team' this year as, injuries aside, we should always have a good bench to call on. Impact players such as Stevens and Benyon and the ability to change things around if things are not working, (which was my only criticism of PB last year, he left it to late or didn't make changes when IMO they needed to be made). Therefore my team, and just as important the bench is; GK Poke LB Hodges CB Todd CB Hargreaves (we all know that is gonna happen) RB Mansell LM Carayol CM Thompson CM Wroe RM Carlisle CF Sills CF Green Subs: Rice, Nicholson, Robertson, Stevens, Benyon Formation 4-4-2 Id put good money on my 11 being the starting 11 come August 9th.

barnsleygull, its you and me mate , who should pick the side and yes we have got it correct Its clear that Buckle sees Hargreaves as a centerback now and I'm sure he will play Woods in some games and Hargreaves in the others. Wroe and Thompson will play along side each other in the midfield, that is almost a cert. There is no room in football for sentiment and Hodges will get the nod over Nicholson, who will be able to cover that spot if needed. Looks like tufc01 had better not have a bet on his team selection

I just wonder whether, when it comes to the first game ... and its Histon away .... whether we might not see Hodges in left midfield and Nicholson at left back, with Carayol on the bench.

I think that is a distinct possibility, I do not think my team selection, would be set in stone. I do believe much will depend really on who we are playing and what style they play. I think if we get to this cup semi final that is on the same time as the Chelsea game, we may just see the team Buckle would hope to start with. Buckle has said he plans to keep teams guessing, how we will play etc, so I believe we will see several combinations of the team, each to do its own type of job.

I know he may be the wrong side of 35 but, for me he is still such a quality player and a great influence on the pitch. I cant see him being discarded from the XI. It does look as though Bucks wants to use him, just not in his favoured position. To be fair though, i thought he did well at centre back against Rovers so it could well work and i think he is a decent player wherever he plays.

He is a very good player as you say and 35, is age is not a problem, he is fit and still not old. Bucks is trying him at the back, as he does not see him having a role in midfield anymore. That is not to say that there won't be a need at some time for him to fill in that role. I left him out, simply because I believe Woods would still be first choice for that spot. We all know Steve will miss games and Hargreaves, will be the man to step into Woods shoes, when that happens. The side will still need at times the good old heads out on the pitch, say when we are only one up with 10 to go. Time to bring on someone like Hargreaves. We will see him play and start games, but Its my view he will not be first choice and I see him on the bench, more than I see him starting games.

Are you sure about Wood, Dave? I think he had a shocker last season. Does he look any better this pre-season?
