Now it seems as though the squad is finally complete (so long as Poke signs tommorow as expected). So who, now, would you pick for the opening game against Histon. You can choose from Poke, Rice, Mansell, Nicholson, Woods, Todd, Brough, Hargreaves, Hodges, Wroe, Thompson, Adams, Stevens, Carlisle, Caroyol, Sills, Benyon, Green, Ellis, Dsane, Robertson, Gwinnett, also afew trialists, Compton, Yima, Nicolec, Kelly, im not sure if Compton and Kelly are still on trial. I hope i havent missed anyone. Heres mine..........
GK Poke RB Mansell LB Nicholson CB Todd CB Woods CM Hargreaves CM Hodges RW Carlisle LW Caroyol CF Sills CF Green
Bench (I decided on no sub keeper because there are too many good outfield players to only have four on the bench!) S1 Benyon S2 Stevens S3 Thompson S4 Wroe S5 Brough
That leaves no place for Ellis, Adams, Dsane, Robertson, Rice, Gwinnet or any trialists who might sign.
I didnt put Thompson, Wroe or Brough in the starting line up because i am yet to see any of them play. Therefore, once i have, my starting line up idea will probably change. I cant see Hargreaves at centre back personnally but again, i am yet to see him there. As you can see i went for experience!

Very interesting choices, maybe that Sean knows something I will wait until I see the boys in action on Tuesday, but tufcwewillbeback, I would like to know firstly why S.Woods,he has been a favorite player of mine since he has been here, but don't think he would get a starting place. TUAFC1 won't be to happy mate, I mean leaving Dsane out of the squad, spending near £400 to sponsor the guy, hes going to want to see him play ;D ;D

Im also a big fan of S Woods. Last season Todd was very steady. Woods made 1 or 2 mistakes but he is an assured defender. Ellis, Robertson and even Todd often smash the ball straight back to the opposition or out of play. Woods on the other hand takes the pressure of the defence by looking for a pass. Having said that, i would expect Brough to be similar as he is also a midfielder. Lets not forget, Woods was a regular when we were in league 1. Dsane has a very impressive record and i think he is an intellegent player but he seemed to me a little lazy last season. For me, Benyon would have a greater effect coming of the bench because he is quick and likes to play of Tim Sills. Still, it demonstrates the strength of our squad, that Dsane, a regular starter for Accrington in the first half of last season, could be struggling to even make the 16. Allso, im a massive Benyon fan and if Green doesnt hit the ground running id like to see him get a few starts. I hope i wasnt premature about Poke!!!

GK TBC RB Mansell LB Hodges CB Hargreaves CB Brough CM Thompson CM Wroe RW Carlisle LW Caroyol CF Sills CF Green Subs ? An interesting team selection there Sean. The only "controversy" would appear to be the omission of Chris Todd, which may of course be out of personal preference, or perhaps a belief that he may not be with us at the start of the season? I know there have been "rumours" that he may be moving on. Either way, I must admit I would be a bit concerned if Brough and Hargeaves were our centre back pairing, and would also think that its a pretty big gamble on the part of Paul Buckle, given that they have both played nearly all their football in midfield? I would hope that if Todd does go, and im not saying he will, but if he should, then I would hope we would bring in an established centre half to replace him in the squad. At the moment the centre of defence is the one area that I am still slightly concerned about, other than the goalkeeping situation which will hopefully be resolved shortly. Still, who knows, it could just be that Brough and Hargeaves turn out to be an excellent centre half pairing and lead us all the way to the BSP title!

I just think that Steve lacks pace and I really think we have seen the best of him. I'm pretty sure Green will start up from the Sills and like you I do think Benyon, and he has played well, coming off the bench. You said that you went for experience, so that is why I asked why you did not have Dsane, in your squad, as he has much more than Benyon. Have a look again at what Sean has picked, you may find he is not far of the mark

I hope Todd stays. I had'nt heard any rumours but if he does go we could have real trouble at the back.

The thing about Sean's selection is that there is no Nicholson. He might be right about that but i see Hodges slotting in somewhere else. Also it would be a gamble if Bucks picked 2 midfielders at the back. What i meant really was experience in the starting 11.

I also thought he looked particularly sharp and focused in the second half at Tiverton. He just lacks that killer finish. Except at Burton of course.

I was hoping Sean would have given his reasons for his personal choice of the squad he would start with.
I fully agree with crispygull's concerns about the defensive pairing. Todd was guilty of mistakes last year, but he is a quality defender and one I would start with. Maybe there is truth in the rumours he may not be here, we will have to wait and see.
My view has always been that players should aways when possible play in the position that is natural to them and playing the rule in the team, that is familiar to them
Yes players can often adapt to play in a new position or role for a team, but it does not always work. I really don't see Hargreaves as a defender, but he may prove me wrong.

I am slightly concerned about the CB position too, even more so if Todd were to go although I am sure PB wouldn't let him leave without replacing him.
For me I cant see Hargreaves as a Defender but I am happy to be proved wrong. I haven't seen Brough play for us yet but he is another CM being used as a CB and this is another concern. Its good to have versatility within the squad but when our aim is to win the league, over the course of a season we need at least 1 (preferably both) CBs to Stand up and be counted week after week consistently being solid to form the platform that the rest of the side can build on. As yet I am not sure who/which two are going to be that player(s) for us this year, or even If we have them in the Squad
If I had to choose which two I would play at CB right now. I would go with Todd and Woods, Todd is prone to the odd error but is a good center half, and Woodsy well, his pace has gone but hes turning into a bit of a Hilly for me! Maybe I remember the old Woods to well
I am sure we will all have a much better Idea after Tuesday

Well having now seem the whole squad play some part in to nights game, we can start with any of them, we do have quality in depth this season, well done to Paul Buckle and the board for the backing they have given him.
