Well what can i say. I'm sure those of you who watched it will agree with me. This was the most amazing greatest reace ever. I trulli (!) have never seen anything like that in my life. For those who didnt see it you missed the most nail biting unbelievable race ever. Here are my thoughts, if anyone is interested.
Pre Race: Gotta give ITV their due they got it right today to the coverage was excellent. Really loved the comedy pop video of all the racers and itv crew singing to My Chemical Romance song 'Welcome to the Black Parade' It was very funny looking back at the last 12 years off ITV coverage and they will be sorely missed. Apart from the ad breaks of course. they wona Bafta for their coverage of Jenson Buttons' Canadian first (and only) win. They must surely win one for this episode today.
On Martin Brundle's grid walk he asked the question we all wanted to know. Regarding the fact that the stewards have made some strange decisions this year. And also taking on board if you didnt know that the FIA chooses local Motorsport people i think three for each race, to coordinate the final penalty decisions. These people are never the same at each race. So there is never a REAL level playing field... Brundle asked Bernie Ecclescake how he and the stewards had managed to make sure that this last race had something to play for. Of course Eccles the idiot said 'it gets harder each season'. joking of course but when you thinkabout some of the amazingly weird decisions made this season you just have to wonder!!!
This is the end of an era for F1 as it will change dramatically next season. And it could all be a different kettle of Schumachers next season. It may have much more challengersd to the title next season so a great time to win the World Title.
3 Minutes before the start fo the race and disaster!!! A massive unexpected down pour and all the cars on dry tyres. The race start was delayed as all but one of the racers changed to intermediate tyres. (explanation: there is a dry tyre and a wet tyre but also a half way between both which is intermediate. However there is a wet which is also known as mmonsson - all you need to know is that they were on intermediate wets)
Race: The race started an i was sad to see David Couthard crash out on first lap. Last race for him and he is now retiresd. 12 Wins 60 odd podiums and 15 years in the F1 series. Legendary. The safety car had to come out and it was a few laps bbefore we got started really. All cars were still on wets until the track dried out and it is fair to say that Hamilton stayed out a lap tp long as the track was too try and in fact when he did come out he was 7th: Remember he had to finish fifth and the title was his even if Flippin Massa came 1st. Lewis made hso way back up to fifth and with No chance of rain according to all the telematary all he need to do was finish.
The Closing Laps: With around 13 laps to go there was word that there could be rain around 4 laps to go, i mean how much more drama do we need. Just hold off and with no rain it should all be as you were in the positions but it does not work like that. Approx with about 7 or 8 laps to go the rain came again and most of the drivers had to pit. Out come hamilton 5th and jsut holding on. Glock 4th Hamilton 5th Vettel 6th. and i think im right in saying glock was still on Drys. The track was touch an go re if wets were needed and not dry enough for drys!!!
Near The End: With only 2 laps to gop and Hamilton runs wid eonthe wets as its not wet enough and Vettel takes 5th. Game Over Goodnight Sweetheart, Massa is Champion unless he can overe take Vettel - doubtful as he is on wets OR Timo glock in 4th On DRYS cocking up big time. cut to the pit crews and you have bnever seen such apprehension, bbcgull is close to tears as hamilton is not gonna win the World Title. Simply it had to rain harder in the next minute And LH would have overtake! It just was not gonna hapen the power wasnt there and the rain wasnt there.
Final Lap: Half a lap to go and LH is a second behind Vettel (an eternity in racing) and about TWO AND A HALF behind Glock. Massa crosses the finish line and wins the World Championship!!!!!!!!!!!! and is told down his radio that LH is sixth and he had done it. The Brazilian crowds go will, as the brazilian has done it. His first title! He points his finger to the skys saying 'Number one' and celebrates. But hold on.... TWO corners from the end Timo Glocks dry tyres have trouble and he goes wide and falls from 4th to 5th then....LEWIS over takes him i quote "is that glock is that glock going sideways....
TESSSSSSS IT ISSSSSSSS" 20 seconds before the line he takes 5th and races ocver the line ' He has done it in a most incredible way. Cut to the Ferarri garage and family and they are all celebrating the title for Massa as they thought he had won and Ham was 6th to be told live on screen that he hadnt. Gutted for you!! lol!! To lose the title with two laps to go and to win it back with 20 seconds and 2 corners to go i have never seen anything like it in my life.
I have been a F1 fan since 1981 through the Mansell Years, through the Damon Hill years, through the Button.. well maybe not. But in all my time as a fan i have NEVER gone through a rollercoaster like that in my life. God knows what it was like for them at the track and the millions of viewers watching but i am not ashamed to admit that i cried my eyes out: For Britain, for Lewis and for me. I went through the pain of last year when Lewis lost the title here and when he fell to sixth it borke my heart and i screamed at the tv. Laugh if you will but it mean that much to me too. When he over toook with two corners to go i jumped at the screen i laughed cheered screamed cried...and oh wait.. feel silent. Has it done really? Is this real?
Through all those times, especailly in the last two Hamilton years i had woken up in the middle of the night and left my girlfriend to watch the middle of the night race, all those times i watched all the qualifying.. in the middle of the night sometimes too..leaving her again, all those times i listened to the free practice on the radio on fridays: it was worth every moment just to feel what i felt when Lewis drive over that finish line.....
"If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream -- and not make dreams your master; If you can think -- and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings -- nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -- Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And -- which is more -- you'll be a Man, my son!"
