What a big game this is going to be for our team and also Paul Buckle. Some believe anything but a win, will spell the end for Paul as our manager. I do not share those views, but a defeat, would make it hard for him to stay much longer, If after this game he could not start turning things around.
I do not know the man, but guess he is just a regularly guy like most of us and I hope for him, that he can get the desired result.I spend most of my working day on my own, driving around and enjoying the views and have so much thinking time.
Today I tried to pick the team I would start with on Sunday and I failed, as I really do not know just what the best eleven would be needed, to go and get the win. So I think Paul must also really be pulling his hair out, he will know better than anyone, just what is riding on this match.
I hope he does not just play his favorites as some feel he is guilty of, I hope he picks a team based on only the ability to win the match, he will need to have clear ideas of how the team will play. I feel he will also need a proper plan B, one where he can make a change in formation, or style of play, It may be substitutions needed to make those changes, but the plan must be crystal clear.
With even bigger games coming up after this one, the team need a big boost of confidence, that only a win can bring. Good luck boys and good luck Paul.

It's time for a big change. My team for Sunday is: Poke Mansell Todd Ellis Hodges Adams Thompson Stevens Carayol Green Benyon
or alternatively you could toss a coin in the air and see what comes down!

I quite like the look of the above two sides as they seem to be all about pace and passing - whether Buckle will think that this is the best approach is another thing. Only variation would be to put Mansell at RB with Thompson back in Midfield. Not too sure about starting Danny and perhaps would retain Carlisle. Any two of Dsane, Benyon and Green up front to discourage Hoof ball syndrome. However, taking a wild guess suspect line up will be something like this: Poke, Mansell, Todd, Woods, Hodges Carlisle, Thompson, Hargreaves, Carayol Sills Dsane. Whatever the squad, we really really need the win. The performances have been there (e.g. York) but the rub of the Green and goals certainly haven't!! (Maybe he will score a hat-trick ;D) An early goal will calm the nerves and maybe see us go on to greater things. Anything other than a win will probably have ramifications for the rest of the season. Is this a pivotal point in the campaign?

With even bigger games coming up after this one, the team need a big boost of confidence, that only a win can bring. Good luck boys and good luck Paul. I overheard some one today, who no doubt got it from a 'good source' that there was a board meeting yesterday and apparently they have given him 3 games. Whilst one does not wish to stoke these rumours, although its hardly a rumour, i think it does sort of tie in with the 10 games that has been muted by lots of people as the benchmark by which to judge a start to the season. Hopefully after these 3 games, the whole thing can be put to bed until the end of the season, next season, whenever. With Northwich & Eastbourne at Home and an aged, hoof ball Cambridge away, i fully expect at least 7 points from those 3 games, therefore Job safe, all the unsettling talk of getting rid of PB done and dusted, the doubters can all move on and get back behind the team (along with those of us who have always been fully behind PB & the team). But will it go away if we get 7 points or dare i say 9pts. I get the impression now that there are some people who want him out REGARDLESS. A bit unfair as the players have been just as much, in some cases more, to blame. The team he has put out for the last 2 games has been about as good as we can muster, players that are amongst the 'best' in the BSP and its them who have failed to perform and with that the confidence has plummeted. We just need a goal, an early goal at that, at least in the first half. Once this happens i think we will see an entirely different performance.

Have to agree with you, the only possible difference is likely to be Ellis instead of woods. Steele would rip Woods to shreds tomorrow, at least Ellis does have some pace.
I would change things a little bit and go for;
Poke Mansell Todd Ellis Hodges Car lisle Hargreaves Adams Carayol Benyon Green
or be even more adventurous and go 4-3-3 and put them under pressure and hopefully get this early goal we are all after. The only trouble is finding the players suitable for this formation.
Poke Mansell Todd Ellis Hodges Thompson Hargreaves Carlisle Benyon Sills Green
Our players would probably be more suited to a 3-5-2, in which case;
Poke Robertson Todd Ellis Mansell Thompson Hargreaves Adams Carayol Sills Benyon
Sills would HAVE to play if we went for this as you would hope that the 2 wide men would do what they are supposed to do, get wide, beat their man and get a cross in.
This little exercise shows just how difficult PB's job is this season. Last season the team pretty much picked itself.

1- I overheard some one today, who no doubt got it from a 'good source' that there was a board meeting yesterday and apparently they have given him 3 games.************************************************ 2 - i fully expect at least 7 points from those 3 games, therefore Job safe, all the unsettling talk of getting rid of PB done and dusted, the doubters can all move on and get back behind the team (along with those of us who have always been fully behind PB & the team). **************************************************** 3- I get the impression now that there are some people who want him out REGARDLESS. A bit unfair as the players have been just as much, in some cases more, to blame. 1- That's the same "Kosha" information I was given at Crawley..............well four games on and the "Dead Man" is still walking. My "information" didn't come from a board member, it came from a Torquay Golf Club member who used that self perceived privileged position to "reliably" justify the rumour mongering (The Chairman Alex Rowe also happens to be captain of TGC)..................... Alex was on holiday then and any board meeting not scheduled until AFTER the dreaded third game at home to York. 2- Now that board meeting has been held, and whilst I would hope that no such gun has been pointed at the manager's head; if such a policy decision has been made to look at the situation in 3 games, then I don't think that to be unreasonable - but as long as there is no ultimatum transmitted to the manager and definitely as long as it hasn't been discussed outside that boardroom. As I said before, I'm quite happy to let the manager manage and the board to direct...................even if I personally don't agree with their decisions. There is a danger of regarding these 3 games as some what easier..............in the circumstances I would suggest they are more difficult. 3- On this point I reckon you are one hundred per cent correct - sadly.

I know that some of my posts suggest that my views are always through rose tinted glasses etc and that my unwavering support for PB and the team clouds what some people suggest are deep rooted problems at the club. I like to think i look at the positives and look at the way forward rather than concentrate on the negatives, something that Merse alluded to yesterday.
On that point, and without wishing to make excuses, one interesting point that i have noticed is this league position of the opposition so far.
If Kidderminster win their game today (their game in hand) then of the 7 teams we have faced so far, ALL of them are in the top 10. Whilst people say there are no 'easy' games in this league (or any other league), this is not necessarily true and i would bet that all of the premiership clubs wish they could play West Brom next week/every week. I would suggest that todays game might just fall into the category of one of the easier games and maybe if we were lucky enough to get one of the 'easier' games earlier in the season the pressure wouldn't be as immense today as it is for us to get a result . What would have been more worrying would be if we had lost to teams in the bottom half of the table. No team has yet to grab this league by the balls and open up any gap, like ourselves and Aldershot last year, therefore a couple of wins and we are back amongst it. Starting off with a good win today.

[glow=yellow,2,300]The big dilema for me is.. [/glow]do I listen to it on Radio Devon, or do I have an afternoon nap? 1. I had a hernia op last week, do i drive, then hobble to the ground or l do i listen on the radio. NO dilemma, got to go. 2. Do i stand in the pop side and risk someone bumping into me or do i sit in the grandstand somewhere. NO dilemma, as if the crowd is like the last game, or worse, i might be stood in the pop side on my own. 3. Do i want a boring 0-0 or a loss so that i don't get too excited and jump up and rip out the stitches, or do i want a 4-0 drubbing and just try not to get to excited when we score. NO dilemma, i want the 4-0. Dilemma over. COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!! and before someone says 'there is comitment for you' no its not, its crass stupidty, but wild horses and all that.....

Exactly the side I wanted to see! Put the two pacy strikers on to start with and give them their chance. Sills is there to be reverted to if the need arises, and Dsane's confidence or positivity seems to be missing. Stevens is there to take the right flank if Carlisle again struggles to make an impact, so really it is all down to the players now...............and the crowd to keep off their backs and the time to impose themselves on the game.

Hooray!............... BBC Devon have got a proper commentator ( Vic Morgan) and a qualified summariser ( Kevin Hill) who knows what he is watching and can put it over. I almost gave up on listening to this station, such was their poor out put of late..................Hilly just oozes passion for the Gulls to do well and sounds like he is having sex at times - he's not is he?
