Have to say that in view of my recent doubts about Todd, he and Robertson were fantastic yesterday. A dire game, void of much skill, but who cares.
I find the critisism of Benyon pretty laughable to be honest. The ball wasn't sticking at all up front at all with Sturrock and Sills. The change did us a favour - he's not the complete player, sure, and he needs to learn to stay on his feet, but his running off the ball was a class apart. Maybe there is a difference in perspective from those who were at the game and those who watched it on TV. He actually gave our defence and midfield options last night - nobody else did. Non of the buggers could pass the balll all night though. To single out he and Stevens for critisism when there were poor performances throughout the midfield and forward line just highlights the blinkers that some continue to view through.
If Bevan is fit, who do we start with in goal?

I haven't seen any criticism of him on here though, are you confusing the statement that he didn't cause sHiton any trouble with criticism? His running off the ball is fine, it's when he got the ruddy thing and immediately loses it the trouble starts......................that's not criticism that's FACT.Yes, I guess the perspective from a worms eye view from one end WAS different to that of TV. I could give the others options by sitting in the stand and shouting for them to clear it into my lap................fat lot of good that would do though!

His running off the ball is fine, it's when he got the ruddy thing and immediately loses it the trouble starts......................that's not criticism that's FACT.Nope........you no doubt disagree, but your statement below is somewhat critical: "I thought tonight showed just why him and Stevens struggle to hold down a first team place, they gave the ball away endlessly with their poor body strength and careless passing without thought. They were boys against men trouble is they are not boy's ages are they?"All of the points you raise were displayed throughout the whole team on Monday.........even more so by Sturrock. Not the complete player, but in simple terms and whatever trouble he has, we were more dangerous when the change was made. ...............and on your wider point I'd say that Benyon was at the root of most of the very little trouble we did cause Histon . He had been on for about two minutes when he got on the end of a ball, beat a man at the bye line and whipped in a cross which was flicked away from Sills. We were absolutely static with Sturrock and Sills playing together. On the general point about Robertson......I felt he had a great game on Monday. However, he does take a chance with putting a boot / arm/ elbow in once the ball has gone. It's a mans game and contact sport bla bla bla........ all that pony is fine, but why put ourselves at the risk of going down to ten men in such a crucial game? Discipline could hold the key to us getting promoted........a lack of it will almost certainly see the whole season go down the tube. Robertson had a kick at someone in the Burton game, a nibble at someone in the home leg and now this. He has got away with it so far, but if a decision goes against us in the final we won't be laughing at all. Someone needs to remind him of his responsibility to the team.

I know I'm new to this argument and it's all old hat - Stevens - sometimes he works sometimes he doesn't : when he has the FB in his pocket he is good and very useful, when he has a quick FB who uses his nouse he struggles. He's only young and will learn. Not sure if he will cut at league level though. Sturrock - is clearly a class act but has been troubled with fitness. He has though, contributed greatly to the team and there is a lot our players could learn from his foresight and player-reading. Benyon - has come on leaps and bounds and is learning strength to ad to his finishin prowess. Yes, did not get the rub of the green at Histon but cannot fault his effort, work effort, speed and determination to improve (unlike others at the club and those no longer there). Robertson - I feel is an unfinished product, he has good strength in the air and is making a real effort to improve his distribution. Decision-making is the next area he needs to loom at though. He has come back from being considered 'surplus to requirements' and shown good character in working for his living. He has not been helped by being used along the back line. I find him honest, young, strong and one to nurture for the future. Some players mature at different ages and we can't expect all TUFC players to be Mancienne or to go back to an old Torquay player, Big Dave.
