Ok....your homework for the weekend. Are Utd incompetent or simply lacking a little thought with regards letting us know whats going on? discuss.
Theres no doubt great strides have been made with regards many aspects of running the club. For me though communication is one area that hasn`t changed much and needs attention. With a little thought a lot of speculation, rumour and concern could be avoided.
Utd has a history of dealing with things that result in them dragging on and becoming major issues. Rayner, announcement of press release which ends up being an anti climax, Poke. I`m sure you can think of more. Whilst its great that work is being done to improve the bar, personally one photo is enough. Not sure if its just me but it feels like theres been more publicity on the pitch and the bar than the squad. PB releases on the official site smack of, "PB we need to mention something about the playing side of things, can you cobble together a few words quickly. Nothing too revealing, you know just a few vague encouraging optimistic thoughts."
By the way, still no reply to my email of several weeks ago.
Am I expecting too much or being too critical? I`m just slightly concerned that if it is Poke that Utd are chasing this whole sorry fiasco has been built up so much that I fear it may become an anti climax either way. He`s only 22, he may have impressed on his loan but didn`t a certain Mr Constantine do that? If he was a real prospect he`d be no.2 at Soton. He may well be an excellent signing if we get him, but I can`t help thinking this signing is being touted as the difference between success or mediocraty. I hope the pressure isn`t too much for him or the fans expectations of him too high and the patience too little.
Any thoughts?
Buster

Buster,
Take a deep breath mate, We have a squad of quality before a football is even kicked. That is progress from the bad old days.
Despite Im aware of player targets I would never discuss them ever, however, the future is bright. Keep an eye on the press.

Buster I fully agree with everything you have said. I Have said it many times that those running the club, feel more distant than any others, who have run it. I really believed that they were going to work on bringing the fans closer to the club and I fail to understand, why they do not deal with these issues.
You wrote a great post, "you asked for it Sean" and have you had a decent answer. No is the answer and I feel you and everyone who is a fan, should be getting answers. To not reply to emails is very poor public relations I'm afraid, even m.Bateson, who really needed to take lessons in this, would have at least replied.
When do we hear from our chairman, or Colin Lee, even Roberts made himself more available than the people running the club now. Its time they realized, its the fans who are the ones paying at the gate, who's money will be a big part of the clubs income. Time to start considering them a little more. Times are getting hard for a lot of people, to easy to lose fans, simply by keeping them to much on the outside.

Dave,
We all know why Roberts was happy to "have his say" on the net, "ask the chairman" I think it was called. He had an agenda so did Bateson. They peddled their lies and managed the actual questions asked. Lets not even think about going down that way again.
The club is fully aware of what is written on this site, give them some credit, they are still finding their feet and old debt. The fans are very important to this club and Alex Rowe knows this better then anyone. I dont name drop but rest assured certain club members are working 24/7 to make sure all your match days are a better experience.

Sean, no one is saying that the club is not working to improve many aspects of the club. Many simply feel that they do not get the communications, they feel they should.
Those up front need to be seen and heard more, need to keep fans more up to date with whats going on, it is after all the fans club and they are kept far to much in the dark. There will be times we know, when somethings are not revealed, for good reasons, but don't you agree all this going on with Poke, really should now be a bit more open.

Dave I wont and cant disuss any player arrangements, but Poke is a prime reason why it should not be played out on fan web pages.
The club understands the fans frustrations, because for the first time in 20 years the club is now run by the fans. Alex Rowe is a supporter of TUFC and proberly understands the fans views more then most. We all have the clubs (which is the fans) best interests at heart. Keep a steady hand Dave, all will be revealed soon !!!

Don't worry Sean, my hand is steady and I really am glad the club is being run by people, who are TUAFC fans. If the club understands the fans frustrations, then they could help, by giving more news or updates, its not hard Sean. They have their own website and while they may not be able to give the news the fans want to hear, they could at least, let them know what they are still working on.
Paul makes a statement today, there was no reason not to add, that he was still hoping to sign Poke.

I cannot think what else they could say. I dare say we would hope to sign Poke, however dont take your eye off the ball with the Poke thing, in football everything is cloak and dagger, possible signings are kept under the radar for various reason, lets all respect the clubs desire to keep this one under the radar.

Fair enough Sean any way Ant gave me some news today and he is not often wrong.
You need to understand, that I think we are very lucky to have the owners we had got and have no fears they will take this club to new heights.
That is not what the thread is about, like it or not and this is not meant to sound like I'm criticizing those at the top, but they do not communicate with the fans enough.
I'm not anti-Bateson, I know his faults and failings, but in his early years we did at least try. He said to many wrong things to many times and yes Roberts was just lies I agree.
All I'm saying is Alex needs to get his face in the paper a bit more, let the fans see him as the chairman and not just a name in a program, as the top man really he needs to show he is leading and then many will follow.

Sean Thanks for your comments on this thread. I think most of us can understand the need for patience. It's all a matter of perception and I think that the lack of "team" news on the official site adds to the sense of frustration. We live, for better or worse, in an impatient, 24/7 world, filled with news, sports news and information. Public and private organisations across the board have difficulty with communication and getting it right. TUFC is no different. Given the need to say something without saying anything (one of the few things that I thought Mike Bateson was quite good at!), a different impression might have been given, without revealing anything, just by publishing more information that gives us the idea that we are getting what we want.

I really do not what more the club could say at this time of year, Surely you do not expect the club or PB to post information on transfer targets or even Trialists on .com.
Lets say for example somebody at the club had decided to release an official statement saying that the club was confident in signing Poke within the next few days. Maybe we could of slept easier for a few days, but what if we were given that information 3 weeks ago? would we really be any closer to the club than we are now? No. We would all be wondering Why the Club or Mr. Poke has let us down.
For all we know its a done deal, and there are some Finance figures at Saints end to Iron out, But is there really any benefit of making that Official news. That doesn't scream professionalism to me and I would certainly not like it if I Supplier I was dealing with in my company started mouthing off about sticking points in negotiations.
Lets all just remember our old regimes of 8 players signed on and 15 Trialists that no-one has heard of. The club are working extremely hard in all areas of the club and the least we can do is show them a little bit of patience.
I for one am glad the club are trying to build on communications with the fans by updating us on all the work that s happening on the non playing side of the club.

Some good points Mickey, but the point is Paul said he would have the answer last Monday and has said nothing since.
I was not trying to suggest that we need to know all the player dealings etc and know the reasons, why somethings need to be kept under the hat.
I just feel that the club needs to have certain people more in the public eye and need to keep the fans as up to date as possible.

I agree with sean that certain issues have to be kept out of the media & public spotlight for as long as possible some times. Maybe the club could do with a PR person as a go between the fans, media & the club. With regard to the reply to the email, even if the club could not answer your question then yes a courteous email should have been sent back as a matter of course. Who is the website editor? He should be out there on the training pitch & getting interviews off all our new players & filling the website this time of season with items to keep the fans pacified & if anything give them something else to think about. Lets support what players we have & not what could be, as in football not every target will come off. They are going to make mistakes & we all need to accept that as not everything can be right 1st time of asking, it's as long as they learn from them that will turn us into a great club. Keep the faith with the club as in time everything will fall into place, as I believe we will soon be running (not playing) an operation to championship standard.

Good answer Ant,
Once the season has started and all players are in place, I am sure you will all hear about player targets and what exactly happened. Football transfers in this world of agents and advisers has gone completly mad. Keep the faith.

All I'm saying is Alex needs to get his face in the paper a bit more, let the fans see him as the chairman and not just a name in a program, as the top man really he needs to show he is leading and then many will follow. One of the criticisms of both Bateson and Roberts was that it sometimes felt as if they enjoyed having their faces on the TV or in the papers too much - to the extent that it seemed as if one of their main reasons for being involved was to boost their own egos. I find it quite refreshing that the consortium are quite low-key in their profile because it just underlines that their motives are to work hard for the benefit OUR club, nothing other than that. I think they also may feel that if you "milk the honeymoon period" too much, you put yourself right in the firing line when things do go wrong - and although the long term trajectory is up there will be a few downturns along the way. I know that the 60s, 70s and 80s was a different and not so news-hungry age, but I can't remember Tony Boyce hogging centre stage too much. I am sure he is very much a role model for Alex Rowe - and a good choice of role model in my eyes.
