Many thanks to the members who have put in some late and sensible votes today, it has given some creditability back to the best poster of the week award.
It has been good this week to see some posts made by some members who have not posted before, I hope in time we will see more of our readers wanting to share their views with us all here on the TFF.
I would expect this time next week we will see many in the frame of the award as some great posts would have been put on the forum about Sunday’s game.
What can I say that I have not already said before about this week’s winner? He is truly a lovely and very likable man who has TUFC firmly placed in his heart. He is one of more regular contributors on the forum and all his posts are first class and it’s a real joy having him as a member.
This week’s winner is tufc01 well done Richard
One of tufc01’s posts made this week.
First of all may I offer a massive thank you to EVERYONE who was involved in organising last night’s event. I would also like to add an extra well done to Lou, I thought you did a magnificent job and I am so pleased for you that it was such a success. At the beginning when you mentioned it I thought it would be a success but last night truly exceeded my expectations.
Can I say right now that you can count me in for the next one and can I stake an early claim to be seated in exactly the same place. Sat next to an absolute legend, and then on the other side of me was Robin Stubbs, what more could I ask for. ;D ;D
Unfortunately due to work commitment’s I missed the meal, but there was nothing but praise for it.
As I mentioned previously I was fortunate enough to be sat next to the illustrious Robin Stubbs, what a thoroughly nice, pleasant, approachable and genuine guy, but the thing that struck me most was his passion for football and his passion for Torquay United. I was utterly captivated (and judging by his expression, so was John) and could have sat through the night listening to his stories and anecdotes. Mind you he would have carried on talking most of the night had they not started to move us out. If you’re lucky enough to get the chance to meet him I would encourage you to ask him about his time at the club as he would be more than willing to share his experiences. Some people have been throwing the word legend around a lot in the last couple of months, but this guy really is a legend. This was borne out by the number of people coming over to ask him to sign things, which he did without hesitation.
Talking of legends, Frank O’Farrell was equally impressive. Never have I seen a man with so much presence. He had an aura about him that quite literally floated across the room, when he spoke EVERYBODY hung on his every word, including his fellow legends.
Listening to these two guys made me envious of those who were lucky enough to be around during the good times when they were involved at the club. They both live in the area and make great ambassadors for the club. I know that Frank was given a life membership by Alex Rowe, does anyone know if the same has been afforded to Robin.
You could probably describe Kenny Allen as a lovable rogue. Given a couple of beers and a microphone I would imagine he could have kept an audience entertained by himself.
Hargreaves and Hilly complimented the other three very well, giving the panel a perfectly rounded experience covering Torquay United past, present and in between.
Player of the season, 2nd & 3rd have been mentioned on here already. The only slight concern would be the absence of Manse due to illness, let’s hope he recovers before Sunday.
Players player of the season was Nicky Wroe.
A great night spent in the presence of a couple of genuine legends, whilst also sharing a table with some truly knowledgeable guys who care so passionately about the club. All made for a fantastic night for me and promotion on Sunday will make this a week I will remember for a long time.
Thank you to all involved.
