It's funny how these little things happen. In checking the details of Kenny Allen's memories of playing Torquay United in 1969 I came across this article about John Smith - of whom Robin Stubbs was talking last night - in the very same issue of Soccer Star:   |

What a player he was - always made a difference.
I never understood why he left, since at that time, I was too young to regularly read papers.
I had to make do with the programmes and the 'Football League review' insert into every programme up and down the country.
He was seriously 'stocky' - who would be the nearest in terms of contemporary player - for us or anyone else?
A portly Maradona?
