So what was your worst football nightmare, was it to do with a Torquay United game or another football team.
It could have been, that you car broke down, you missed your train or coach, maybe you lost your wallet, or had such bad food you were ill for ages. Maybe it was game you wish you had not gone to, for what ever reason.
Mine was a game that I wished I had not gone too. Firstly the wife I had then, had been on my case because I was going to this game, so to start with, I was really looking foward to going, if only to get some Peace.
It had been raining for days, much like it is now and the game looked like it would be called off. On the day I got the news that the game was going ahead, so of I set to Plainmoor to get the coach. Not sure even what year it was(sure someone will tell me)
It was an FA Cup game against Bognor Regis, on paper it looked not only a game we would win, but a nice place to go and watch football. Three coaches left the ground, my coach had only just past Exeter, before, the drivers mirror got broke as it hit a passing lorry. So the coach had to find a garage and make a makeshift repair so we could carry on.
We got there in the end and there was a long lane full of deep muddy puddles leading up to the ground. My mates wanted a drink and there was a pub a few hundred yards down the road. We walked behind all the other TUFC fans, little legs Dave at the back as was normal. I got to the pub doors, but never got in. The doors came flying open and our fans were beating a hasty retreat, the pub was full of Portsmouth fans, who were not very friendly.
As their team was playing away, many had decided to attend this match, I so wish they had not. We went to the ground and I decided not to go in the away end, instead I stood on one side near the halfway Line. Our boy's in the away end were busy putting up their flags. Not long after a group of Pompey fans were pulling them down and thumping anyone close.
The game went ahead, we won and the Pompey fans were let out, we were kept in. Soon after, bottles and bricks were coming over the wall, then they were trying to get over the walls. We were put in and around the center circle and surrounded for our own safety. It was along walk back down that lane to the coach, I believe some of the coaches had windows broken. So glad when we left that place, not a nice day by the seaside at all.

Waking up from a coma to see all my friends and relatives wearing green shirts with Ginster's logos. Well the old man who always stood by me for so many years at Plainmoor and also Romfordkev who then was just in his teens, may have had such a nightmare. Is son a local roofer, was a regular at Plainmoor, I saw him a few months back, for the first time in years. Sadly his dad Roy(the sweet man, Always had a bag of sweets to share) passed away about four years ago. His son told me he no longer goes to Plainmoor, but now watches Argyle, so I did not chat to him for too long ;D ;D

[glow=red,2,300]Waking up from a coma to see all my friends and relatives wearing green shirts with Ginster's logos. [/glow] That would almost be a wet dream compared to waking up in a Red/White/whatever colour with Flybe on the front. Now that WOULD be a nightmare. Think I'd rather stay in the coma!!

I too was at THAT Bognor game Dave R. I think it took place around the time of the "Great Storm" that year. I can vividly remember some Neanderthal throwing what looked like the side of a tree at us from the wall of the ground!! TUFC nightmares are of course, a plenty!! Perhaps the worst of all was standing in the bleak open end at Accrington, with the rain driving into your face, losing in the last minute ( which in reality confirmed our relegation) then having to sit in soaking wet clothes for the 7 hour coach journey back home! Others in no particular order Burnley away 87/88 season - only game that day to be called off in the Football League at 1pm. Then refused to watch PNE V Bury and sat on the coach jugging! Scunthorpe home the same season- needed only a point for promotion. Their keeper - Green played out of his a**e. lost 2-1 Mansfield away Tuesday night under Leroy. Ref called the game off 20 minutes before kick off! Orient away when all we needed was a draw, the sight of the ball spinning 1 yard from goal and no Torquay player able to force it in, with both sides kicking at the ball. Amazing! Stockport away midweek during the Atkins great escape season when the game was called off very late. Picking up the argyle weekly and reading that Merv was once again the Chairman Lets face it, the list could be endless.......

But what I really want to ask is,, where do you buy those cars from that FIX THEMSELVES, because I want one of those mate. ;D ;D ;D

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned last seasons city playoff game. I can't think of a worse scenario except losing at Wembley to them.

I did Dave and it'll be a long time before I forget it! I can remember a work colleague (in Exeter) sending me a text as I was leaving Plainmoor. Talk about kicking a man when he's down!

I'm with you chesney. I mentioned it in my welcoming post as the worst footballing moment by a country mile, made worse by living in Ottery, which is full of 'THEM'. Working in Exeter at times doesn't help, especially with the Torquay stickers on my truck. Even if we win the league and replace 'THEM' as they get relegated, it still wont make that defeat any easier.

Apologies Chesneygull, thought i'd read all the posts! As a previous resident of 5 years and continuing to work and play football there it doesn't get any worse. I thought it might get easier over time, but i watched the goals on youtube the other day and it still hurts. So pleased with how the squad looks now though as it looks like we are stronger all over!

As you may know I have customers in Exeter and for so much of the season, I was the one poking fun at those who were city fans. I don't think anyone of us every dreamed how the end of our season would turn out. But you know part of being a TUFC fan, is getting kicked in the teeth, well it always has been anyway. I don't think we will ever suffer another day like that, a day when the prize was so high and we threw it away. Our time will come to get our own back, but like it or not, they deserved it simply because over the two games they were the better team.
