I started a thread in our history board earlier tonight, the reason was because it will soon be the clubs 110 birthday and I thought we should take a look ten years back, to our 100 birthday.
One thing I do firmly believe is that our club is well over due a really decent present on its birthday. It has over the years had many bad times to deal with, times when the club was in the wrong hands, times when it was starved of any investment and led by those who had no real ambitions for it.
It has suffered many heartaches and some that were really very painful and hard to recover from. Who can forget the dark Webb days? who can forget the man who used our club in a get rich scheme that ended up with our club losing its crown. A crown it had wore for 80 years and proudly might I add, despite all the events that happened in its history.
Unlike some fans, I have never expected anything, I know even with all the best resources the very best board that gives 100 % backing to its chosen manager,it can never mean success will come on a plate, or will just because it looks the very best set up for the manager.
One thing I will always have is hope and I can tell you as a fact without hope you may as well give up being a fan, or even living for that matter. You take Carol I can't expect her to live forever, can't even be sure how long she will live, but I know what I hope for her
When ever things go wrong and we lose an important game that might have got us a big reward, you will always hear the same old thing being said and that is "same old Torquay" well there has been times it has seemed that way and we all know that has been the case really in the last two seasons.
Dropping out of the league one season and then losing a play-off semi-final when it looked well won and that we would be going off to try and win the final. Here we are again just one season later with a major prize that is so close and one we have a great chance of winning.
I do not gamble, but I would say that when I play say a game of snooker, I would call myself a percentage player, any shot would be worked out on what percentage I felt I would have a chance of potting the ball or leaving it safe.
I use the same approach to life and also supporting TUFC and I firmly believe the odds are in our favour to not only get a play-off place, but to go and win the final.
As fans we have all suffered at times, but we have had times of joy, times when we strutted around proudly wearing our shirts and letting everyone know that our club had just gone up, or beat a Championship side in a FA cup game.
Our club really could have a great 110th birthday, play your part and don't be afraid to hope and should it end in tears remember there is still hope for the next season, or if it has to be the season after that one.
The board, manager, players and the fans all want the same thing, we will celebrate together or dry each others tears, but in victory or defeat we should still always stand together as we are all part of the history of TUFC.
