I'm a little bored with the so called 'silly season' seems we've nearly had all of our excitement, although hopefully Poke signing tomorrow will top it off. So I thought I'd start this topic and see where it goes.
Basically it's about where you see the club five years from now, both realistically and in your absolute best case and most hopeful scenario (although it does have to be somewhat sensible, no TQ in the EPL ideas ). I'll start with my thoughts:
2013/2014 Season
Realistically: Yeovil Town redux, having followed the example of Yeovil, Carlisle, Doncaster et al over the past few seasons, the club has reached League One and stabilised around mid table, sometimes threatening the play offs, more often than not just meandering around and flattering to decieve. The club has successfully reconnected to the Torbay community, and has seen crowds rise to an average of around 4-5k with large numbers coming from Paignton, Brixham and Newton not just Torquay. A couple youth players have made their way into the first team set up and are regulars for the team with a few more on the fringes. Essentially where we were in 2004 but with a professional set up. Maybe and I do say maybe, you'll even be able to see a few kids in the town centers of the area in TQU shirts.
Best Case Scenario: United win the Conference Title in 2009 and follow a well worn path by securing back to back promotions by being promoted from League Two in 2010. The club spends a couple of seasons stabilising in League One before becoming viable promotion candidates from League One (a la Yeovil of a season or two ago). As above, the community is reconnected with and the youth team starts to produce players for the first team although in greater numbers. Average crowds of mid 5k's to 6k. Talks open between United, Torbay Council and development partners on plans for a new stadium/training complex between Torquay and Newton Abbot, as the club realises Plainmoor simply does not have the facilities for year round revenue generation (the like that can help the club punch above it's weight financially). Chris Roberts is brought back from Reading in chains and is placed in pillories outside the Rec Ground for tourists to pelt with rotten fruit.
