Two images to start now I've worked out the Photobucket process. The Beryl Cook pictureThis is the postcard produced in 1985. I was once told that Tony Boyce commissioned the original. Was this the case? 75th Anniversary Commemoration I was never into first day covers but couldn't resist this from 1973:

Okay, here's one more. This is a montage of programmes from the Sherpa Van Trophy run of 1989. It was sent to me by a friend a few years back. I think it's wonderful and worthy of sharing with others but hope people respect my wishes not to reproduce it. Thank you.

I sure had most of 'em Dave, had being the operative word I'm afraid but the toll of life past and a particularly acrimonious episode cost me all of those possessions Thanks for the memories though Barton!

Many thanks for sharing your programs etc bartondowns, I will try and find a code this morning that I can put In to stop pictures being copied from the forum, not to be a killjoy, but to ensure all those who share such gems with us can have their wishes protected.
So do you have any great football programs you would like to share with us? we would love to see them, If you already use photo bucket etc, you will know how to put pictures up, the forum does now have a built In free up loader that can be used. Please try and make the images no bigger than 800x600, the forum has a code running that will reduce all pictures to 700x700, but can't do the resize until the image Is down loaded.
For those on a slow connection, any over sized Image just stretch the forum until the code Is able to reduced the image, so those posting any images are kindly asked to consider other members.

Deep in another thread bbcgull invites a potted history of what is now the Johnstone's Paints Trophy. Skimming the detail it all started with the Texaco Cup in 1970/71, a competition for clubs from the English, Scottish and (Northern) Irish Leagues. Then, with the Irish squeezed out, it became the Anglo-Scottish Cup in 1975/76. This pottered on until 1980/81 - Bristol City winning it one year - until the Scottish League's withdrawal on the grounds that the Football League wasn't taking it seriously enough (even though St Mirren were the only Scottish winners in all 11 years of the two competitions). Chesterfield won the last competition beating Rangers 3-0 at Saltergate on the way to the final. The Football League was now left with an Anglo-Scottish Cup without the Scots and responded by creating the Football League Group Cup in 1981. The rest is history. Our first game was at Newport County - the old Somerton Park ground - in August 1981. I was living in South Wales at the time so popped across. I've forgotten the game but remember that, quite rightly in the circumstances, most of the crowd was far more interested in news from the 5th Test against Australia (this was 1981 remember!). Newport produced a single-sheet, fold-over programme. On it you'll see the draw for the first tournament and a picture of future TUFC player Tommy Tynan. Also, if you can read my writing, you'll notice the name of Daryl Batten on the bench for Torquay United.

And Ray Bishop as well Mr Downs - although it seems he was only a member of the original squad before your tidy penmanship.
Scored one of the best goals I've seen from a Torquay player in the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday in my first game standing in the old Mini Stand back in 1982/3 I think. Lost a heart-breaker 3-2.

I rememberi was very ill at that game and with a crowd of over 7000 id never seen crowds like that at Plainmoor. a steward was kind enough to place myself and Mother in a seat in the back of the grandstand so i could see, having lost my place against the barrier due to needed to get some air!!! ..and i hated Gary Megson for 20 years after that!

Strange you should mention Gary Megson and the 'H' word. I took over the research for TUFC for the Football Manager 2009 computer game this season, and Gary Megson still appears in the club's disliked personnel file!! The game introduced a legends and icons section this season; note no person active in anything but local football now could be included, so the likes of Hilly, Rodney Jack, etc, could go on the list...which is as follows... Legends: Robin Stubbs, Tommy Northcott, Don Mills, Dennis Lewis, Sammy Collins and Frank O'Farrell Icons: Derek Dawkins, Dave Caldwell, Steve Cooper, Mark Loram, Ian Twitchin, Bert Head

Thanks, bbcgull. It's all down to:
* a misspent youth, young adulthood and middle age * arrested development * a complete set of Rothmans/Sky yearbooks
