Lets be honest here, todays gate of over 3000 was due only to there being a voucher for the last game of the season against Burton. It does make you wonder where the extra 1000 have been hiding, but as we know the chance of what may look like a big game, will always see our gate go up.
Yes a win today and any mistakes by Burton could have made the last game a real promotion game, with the winner going up as champions, that still could be the case, but its not looking very likely now I fear.
I wonder as well how many of the vouchers will make their way into the nearest bin if we do not win on Monday, as a defeat will surely end even the thinest of hopes we still might have.
What gets me and I fail to understand is why when ever we get a half decent gate, we go and play very poorly and do nothing to encourage the extra fans back to the next game. Todays game being only one away from our final game will not have a great effect as such, it might have had it we were only halfway through the season.
For the first half an hour Plainmoor really was the greatest ground to be in, the singing was so loud and you could not help having a real feel good factor running through your body. Yes there were times it went quite, but who can sing non stop for a whole game.
The crowd really played their part today and how often do we hear that we can make the difference between winning and losing. I wish I could get paid a pound for every game I have been too, where we have had that extra big gate, only for the team to play in such a fashion, the extra fans walk out after the game and ask themselves why they even bothered.
Answers on a postcard please.
