Just goes to show that those who use the phrase "at this level" and decry "Ruth" and "Sweeney" as lacking in skill are talking out of their backsides. Their execution was excellent! ;D ;D ;D ;D Plenty of Premier (not the real one) and Championship players fail to hit the bar (at least until they're out on the town) and as often in these training games it is the defenders who lead the way with achievement. Although I guess we don't really want OUR strikers to be hitting the woodwork, and I note there was no sign of any of our leading triumverate * of scorers last season having a go. * Would this word ever have had so much exposure without Nigel-Starmer-Hyphen-Ruddy-Smith?

Maybe if they had taken their kicks from the proper distance away from the goal (ie: the halfway line) their efforts could be taken with more credence!! But since the 'shots' were taken from 'only' just under 40 yards (and yes Sky had complaints about it!!) well they can't be taken quite so seriously. Obviously this did not play into the hands of the true hoofball merchants who would have been much more comfortable from the 'correct' distance!

Do you know, I reckon that taking them from closer in makes it that bit harder to drop one on target. I always found that with free kicks, and often told a ref not to bother getting the full ten yards from the wall for that matter as I reckoned that if they encroached they then left a bigger target area behind them...............what do others think? The other observation I've always made with Crossbar Challenge is that there is a greater chance of hitting the bar with a rising drive * rather than a dropping chip, yet I can't recall seeing any player trying that method. * At least I seemed to manage to hit the bar too often with rising shots!

Depends Merse, if you plan to put it around the wall, then it would not matter, if they were the full 10 yards. But you would never get it up and over and back down, if they are to close.
