I need the team to win on Saturday, anything less and Berryhead may well be my destination.
My woes started the night on Chelstongulls 50th birthday party, Carol and I had a great night but on the way home the car was doing the odd jerk or two. Only having coke to drink I knew it was not my driving.
So Sunday went and looked under the bonnet and took the car out for a spin, only it made it worse and limped home on three cylinders. Carols bother is a mechanic and he had a quick look, he thought it was an HT lead that was the problem and said he had a spare one like those on my car and would bring it home on Monday night. If that sorted the problem he would get a new set and fit them on Tuesday night.
Having no car to use I had asked the boss to use the van for a few days, only on Tuesday we discovered the exhaust manifold seemed to be leaking, only we could not see where. So I kept the car off the road and when I got home on Thursday I drove to ATS.
They confirmed my fears and said it was a main dealer only part, problem is the cat is all part of it and they quoted £880.00.My boss by this time was doing my head in with his remarks about me using the van still, I do believe it was mostly in fun, but I was feeling pressurised to get the car fixed.
I spoke with Carl(Carols brother when I got back from ATS and said about the van as well, no problem he said, I have a car for sale and you can use that for the time being until we get the car sorted. Great I thought and I took the van back to Newton on Sunday and Carl dropped the for sale car over to me.
The plan was to remove the exhaust manifold and get it welded, cast iron can be repaired with the correct rods and a man with knowhow. Monday night was set to remove the part, only it was raining and so we moved it to Tuesday night.
ATS claimed it would take over 3 hours just to get the part off, we did it in 27 Min's and on Wednesday it was taken to a company near mine who do welding. The guy who was going to do it today called in sick and so another man did the job, only he was unaware of a second possible crack starting that I had asked to be grinded down and welded to prevent it turning into a crack.
As this is being done for next to nothing and done in the guys lunch break he can't finish it now until next Tuesday.I did not know this until just before I was about to go home when I called in to collect it.
Did I care really? well no because just 30 Min's before that I had returned to my company base after driving 370 mile and I wanted to die there and then. Carl's car the one that is for sale and the one he has kindly let me use, had been shunted and the back of it smashed in.
Some lady had reversed a pickup truck into it at lunchtime and it was felt best not to phone me while I was out on the road, as they knew how it would effect me.
Gutted and in need of a great big pickup and not the sort that bangs into other cars ;D the team winning may just save me from my planned trip to Berryhead
