Anyone on here planning to be amongst the supposed 10,000 plus revelers who will be hitting a beach somewhere in Torbay this weekend?Facebook shows over 11,000 people waiting for the venue to be announced....over 4,000 postings on the event and over 4,000 confirmed guests!!! Certainly the authorities are taking it very seriously...but is it a hoax one wonders....or will it really go ahead? The newspapers and BBC/ITV have certainly given it the publicity....people are even booking coaches from the Midlands! Even the schools publicised it by sending letters home with pupils telling them not to go!! I'm off to stock up with Bays Bitter....just in case!! ;D

I heard on the news in the car on the way home, that if it goes ahead the police will close every pub and off license, anywhere near where it is. Whats the point, they will just bring the drinks with them anyway.

Whoops, brown underpants time.............they don't like being dragged into the present day in Torbay do they. If lil'ole Glastonbury can handle their festival and a quarter of a million, surely the D&C Plods can deal with this. "Closing" the pubs is just pure spite and further damaging the local economy....................do they seriously expect the punters to party on jelly and ice cream? If it was 10k OAPs coming, the Round Table or a load of dust carts; the bunting would be out...................over to you Dave!

My thoughts exactly merse re the dustcarts...we put up with those year in-year out, although I think this time was the last. Perhaps Jim could get his 2 girls down there for the night, giving rides at £1 a time he could make a fortune.Jim....my idea so I claim copyright and a %age of the takings!! Torbay needs to move into the modern era.....doubtless if no 'over-the-top' reaction was shown when this party was publicised, the response would not have been highlighted world wide...they are even carrying the story in Australia!!

Merse they said they might close every pub mate, OAPs have holidayed in Torbay and danced and sung to the great entertainer, (you know who I mean) they will always be wecome The dust carts are no more and I'm for one am not sorry to see them go. It always rains and the greens are always ruined and take a long time to recover. I have no problems with any party, but one must be concerned about public order in the Bay, we know how the Young Farmers have behaved in the past. I think you will find illegal raves would not be welcome by most police forces. To try and compare a party to Glastonbury, is a bit of a joke surly? an event well organized, with stewards etc, why our own Jamie was there on duty. but come on Merse, you know you can't resist having a pop at us locals down in Torbay.

[I have no problems with any party, but one must be concerned about public order in the Bay, we know how the Young Farmers have behaved in the past. I think you will find illegal raves would not be welcome by most police forces. In 1973 I was a bus driver with Devon General based at NA. That year the National conference of the Round Table was held in markees at Torre Valley North and we got plenty of extra work ferrying the punters around between TVN and the various hotels accommodating them. I swear to you that wasn't the only "extras" a young, hippie looking; sex mad guy returning to the area for a summer of fun got and the females certainly got accommodated. It seemed almost obligatory for a boob or two to fall out of an evening gown on the way home, and I'll never forget one guy standing in front of the bus grinning from ear to ear with what looked like a sporran in front of his evening dress trousers - then I realised it was no sporran! ;D There were no end of hotel room numbers passed over on bits of paper, and I recall that was the weekend I first set eyes on grey pubes!!!! It's OK for these " Pillocks Pillars of Society" to act the goat down by the seaside but now they are old fogies they don't like it going on!

I get it Merse, you are coming to the party The Round Table has done a lot of good Merse and were does it say they are complaining? I keep telling you, that we in Devon like our life and the pace it moves, we are not small minded, or against change, if it is for the better. We would not like to live in London, do not get conned by those you would meet in Petticoat lane, or taken in by strangers bearing gifts. We also have a great football club.

I'm ruddy not, I'm fifty bloody six this year; so all my women now have to be out of their teens at least! I don't need to get conned in Petticoat lane.................can't remember when I last went there. Mind you when I emerged blinking into the sun light on Sunday morning some bugger had nicked me bike (all twenty quid's worth of it and "bought" at Club Row - an East End Boot Sale with no car boots, just junk slung on the pavement) I went down to the local Thieves Market at Bowmans' Place N7 to see if I could find it but no could see. If it was the Radio 1 Road show they'd not get run out of town would they!

If I was 20 years younger I would be first at this party (and first to leave knowing my lack of drinking skills!!) I am all for it, why shouldnt people be able to party on the beach if they want to? the only problem the authorities have is that they havn't organised it...they dont like the fact that folk can have a good time without them sticking their beaks in.

The beach party has been postponed according to "breaking news" on Herald website. Bet Nick Bye is folding away his Speedos for another time.....
