I just presumed you had been storming the streets of London with a few mates ;D Funny you should say that........................ I spent early yesterday and late today "working around" the protesters in the City and out at City Airport and ExCel and have to say what a good job the police have done in containing the intended disruption to small, managable pockets allowing the rest of the population to get on with their work and for the capital to play it's role in hosting a global summit. A "workforce" of thousands have played many different roles in welcoming all the many prominent politicians and "invisible" support workers and it goes to show what a professional and efficient job London can and does do in hosting world events. PROUD TO BE A LONDONER!

Patrick Kanyuka must be yer man ..... sounds very decent, if a little injury plagued! That's him, yet another of the "new generation" of London youngsters who bring the natural touch and athleticism of their heritage to the table of the "beautiful game" By all accounts this lad has such silky passing skills he cannot only play well at centre back but also as the anchor man of a midfield diamond. Seeing as he is at Swindon, maybe Bucks already knows of his potential seeing as we have just signed Blair Sturrock from there. But then, we already have Michael Brough who fulfills those criterial and he has to be regarded as a "work in progress" whilst he is out on loan at Salisbury.................and in all honesty, these type of cultured players don't fit easily into BSP football. I think the purest footballing sides I have seen in the two seasons we have now been in the BSP would be Forest Green and Fisher Athletic and it is noticeable that they are both small clubs in their respective divisions who are under no pressure of expectancy to attain a top of the table position and so have the ambience and natural environment to operate as "development" clubs where skilled players can find their feet without the undue pressure of unrealistic expectation.

Breaking into buildings and causing CRIMINAL damage, how is that legitimate. Aggressive, yobish, pre-meditated behavior that had been organised months in advance and included 'rent a mob gangs' that were there to do nothing but cause trouble. I thought the police showed remarkable composure. From what i saw on the news there was enough provocation from the protesters to legitimately arrest many many more. And that is why i could never be a policeman, had i been there it would have been difficult not to give them a good hiding with a baton, mind you i would just be stooping to the gutter like these morons are. And who is ultimately going to pay for all of this trouble/damage, yes us. These 'protesters' are the ones that should be ashamed, not you or I. Yes we live in a proud and democratic country and we all have a 'right' to protest, but there is a way to do protesting, and that was the WRONG way. There is video evidence, get the lot of them and bang them up for a few weeks, then see how willing they are to 'protest' in future. [glow=red,2,300]PROUD TO BE ENGLISH[/glow]

With regard to the recent protests, why don't they use water cannons on them?

Dont worry about going off topic....we dont mind that on this forum. If folk dont wont to read threads that have gone off topic then they just ignore them.
Oh..and just for the record, I agree with your views 100%
How anyone can justify the way the police herded these people around and refused to let them leave until they had been photographed and all their details given is beyond me.
The police are supposed to be there to serve the public not treat them like animals.
Look at some of the vids available to see the police lashing out at protesters, who have a legal right to protest by the way.
Its a sad state our country is in when the police seem to have absolute power with no responsibilty.

Genuinely terrifying, in every sense of the word. as i say, there is much, much more evidence and interesting debate to be found for those who are keen... on a final note, i wonder if my 'Ashamed to be English' line was a bit too extreme. it was in direct opposition to Merse's 'Proud to be a Londoner' line. i will never call myself a londoner, despite living there, because the place is rotten to the core. I guess i just went for a bit of sensationalism with the riposte.

don't want to drag this thread any further off topic and have it sent to another board so, if you're agreed TUFC01, i will PM you some reasons which may make you at least reconsider your snap judgement about ALL these protests, especially given that you clearly weren't there. So were YOU there Pete, because I HAVE been there or thereabouts over the two days? Legitimate demo? OK, but it was contained into specific areas rahter than allowed to run al lover the myriad of small streets in the City....................isn't THAT sensible? The ones who wanted to break out of the cordon were the usual suspects who ambush any and every protest they can get their grubby little feet into. I was involved in the mass picket at Orgrieve many years ago as well as the Wapping disputes and I will tell you the Trotskyists, anarchists and general idiotic NON working fringe are the biggest enemy of the working class imaginable. Once you've ended your dispute as a worker they will turn on you and make you a target for their abuse and villification neither knowing nor caring how you are going to support yourself or family. You see them outside the health and educational establishments peddling their extreme periodicals without ever considering the efforts of the workers inside to contribute to an orderly society and and take responsibility for their own upkeep. I am self employed these days, are you claiming then Pete that these "protesters" have a right to obstruct and prevent ME going about supporting myself? Are you claiming that they have a legitimate right to criminally damage and rob the premises of scores of small businesses (sandwich bars, pubs, cafes etc) in the name of "solidarity"? Sorry pal, the only solidarity they can have in my opinion is with the criminal element. If you don't want to get hit over the head by a copper in riot gear don't put yourself in the position where it will likely happen. If you insist on being at the front then put up and shut up. I've been on the end of a good police kicking and beating from the two disputes I chronicalled earlier, I'm not moaning about it; I had my two penneth worth and got two quids worth back with interest ....c'est la vie. I AM proud to be a Londoner because I saw a huge global event expertly policed and dealt with in direct contrast with other less well handled events in other countries and other cities of note.....................remember Genoa? People who had no interest in events were able to go about their business unimpeded and twenty major heads of state were expertly ferried around the capital without any major disruption to normal daily life, and those who DID wish to protest were able to in specifically constructed and policed areas in which to do so. The only restrictions on them were that they were NOT at liberty to take their protest away from those areas and they were NOT at liberty to break the law.......................what is there in that to be ashamed of Pete?

I guess i just went for a bit of sensationalism with the riposte. So are you forced to live in London under duress? "Rotten to the core"? By "the place" do you mean the community or the institutions of the financial sector? If you mean the community, be a man and feck off out of it; you are perfectly at liberty to re-locate and continue your life in any location you choose. If you mean the financial institutions then you should state your case in a more succinct and less ambiguous manner. In my opinion, a bit more of "zero tolerant" policing would make this city a much better place to live, and as for all these tiresome and expensive "intelectual" protests, why not put the Olympic Stadium to that use after the games and allow all the "lefty liberal clever chattering classes" to hold their protests in there out of sight out of mind...................hey it's even got toilets!

Merse. Pete says, "All of us at Bishopsgate...etc.." I'm assuming he was there.
Also, I can't believe that you have watched the video as the police are not just assaulting those at the front, are they? They go around the side and through for a few unwarranted digs as well. To my mind certain of the police are criminals on this viewing.

Merse a warm welcome back, did not think I would have missed you as much as I did. Well what a debate going on here and I'm hoping that you can just confirm that what I watched on TV last night was just rubbish and living in London and its people are nothing like it seemed on the program. Now I have not watched East Enders for over ten years, the only soaps I may watch at Emerdale and Coronation Street. I went into the front room around 10pm last night and Carol was watching BBC3 and it must have been re run of the reception of Peggy's wedding. I could not believe all the problems, so many showing hatred toward so many others, so many lies and wrong deeds being done. So glad I live in sunny Paignton

I was putting that post together as Pete posted Rob. If you want a job done effectively you have to have a force who can and will handle themselves, it's like employing central defenders in the BSP Riot police are RIOT police, they're NOT community bobbies are they? They are deployed to prevent rioting and If Pete and his pals can't take a good confrontation they should stick to writing to the Guardian where they won't get hurt. It's common sense to deploy big buggers witha bit of "attitude" otherwise they are going to fail in their role, any dipstick can see that surely. If someone was going to smash my gaff up I'm bloody sure I'd put a big bruiser on my door rather than a beardy lefty who would try to "negotiate" the threat away. If you want a dirty job done well employ a character who will role their sleeves up and get stuck in otherwise it won't get done!
