www.graysathletic.co.uk/It seems Ernie is now in a coma. The word "tragedy" is often used inappropriately but this is a truly tragic.

I saw Ernie playing for Chesham a number of years ago and recommended him to the late David Preece (who passed away from throat cancer in the past year) as being worth a look at. Had United taken him on, we would have been his first League club. In the event he eventually signed for Oldham Athletic. I spoke to him in the Grays Athletic club house last season, his cancer has gone into all his vital organs and it sounds pretty ominous to me. What an awful shame for that to happen to someone previously so fit and healthy, and as a word of warning it all started with skin cancer; so take care out there in the sun. Very sad news indeed.

It is indeed very sad. A stark warning to all, that no matter how fit & healthy you are, doesn't immune you from such a terrible illness.
