Now now girls! Aussie Merse was guilty of selective quoting, something he likes to try and pick me up on and the goes on a rant about a thread he found tedious, one that he has made about ten posts on and also the prediction league posts that are made. The forum is a TUFC forum where we discuss our club, but it strongly wants to encourage a community feel on it and that means members can discuss and share other interests as well as football. The prediction league is enjoyed by many and as long as members what to take part in it, It will remain a part of the forum. It can't always be just perfect and some posts or threads may be seem by some as not the same standard most are, but thats just life on a forum and we just have to live with it

No harder than normal aussie and I'm well chilled mate, I just needed to make the point that we do talk about other things and as merse often talks non football on here, he then can't moan about it when others do.

I've been thinking about posting on this thread for a few days, but I thought let's wait until after the Altrincham match. The reason is that the game would reveal a lot about our team and manager. We were forced due to injuries to put out a different team and therefore had to adapt the formation, something we did not do at all well last season. How can we forget the painful cock-up of last season's play-offs against Exeter ? We were outplayed in both games after changing to an ultra-defensive formation that could not get going, one that we had not used before.
I must admit I am very impressed this season how Buckle and the team have learned to do adapt this season to different formations and shape. And it is not the first time this season a change in formation has worked. It will be interesting to see what Buckle selects this Saturday for a home match. Traditionally 4-4-2 is used at home, but bearing in mind our stuttering home form and injuries, perhaps 3-5-2 would work better. As Dave R keeps saying, it will be no good just pumping high balls up to Green and Benyon.
Tuesday's match also confirmed we have a strong bench with players who can turn a game on it if required. Something we did not have so much of last season. Let's face it we did not have much midfield cover last season. I was frustrated that Carlisle or Thompson were not used last Saturday when we were struggling against Rushden, by the way.
So in answer to the point of this thread, yes I believe we do have a plan B that works, and it is a case of using it a the right times. Over to Mr. Buckle for that and he seems to be getting better at it.

I think we all agreed in the end, that the main reason we stopped enjoying the good results in the second half of last season, that we enjoyed in the first half, was mainly down to not having a plan B.We have still really only been playing much the same way this season, just looking to hit high balls up to Sills to try and flick on as there is not much else he can really do with balls being pumped up high to him. These are the opening opinions that started this thread off, and in my opinion they are well wide of the mark. How anyone can claim that we have only attempted to play one way this season beggars belief. What about the times we have played with just three at the back? Or the five man midfields featuring wing backs? We've played with one up front, two up front and even three up front; so to suggest there is no "plan B" is utter bollocks in my opinion. I know you have only been to one away game Dave, but even at Weymouth where you did, we did not play the way you inferred.

Merse might hate statistics, but he can't overlook the fact that the disastrous first few games of the season mean we are 4th in the league and not 1st. Then it was a case of Buckle using Plan XYZ l and it took him several games to realise it was a mistake.
