Hi Sean
Hope you interpreted the subject the way I meant, no offence intended, just wanted to stand it out from my previous topic and get your attention. I`d have used a smilie but ashamed to admit cant figure out how to.
Thank you for offering to be `the go between`.
Glad to hear the club monitors the sites. not sure if I was being naive or whether I hadn`t really thought about it, but I hadn`t suspected that.
Now that this is known who knows it may generate more ideas and get the fans and club closer.
Some of these ideas have been posted before, for which I apologise, but I think they merit the dripping tap.
Match day atmosphere
I`d like to see Plainmoor become a place where people go on matchday for more than just the game.
At the moment I feel there is a tendancy for fans to take their seat/position and look for the game to be the catalyst. There are times though when the players need a lift.
It is the age old problem -away fans tend to create a great atmosphere, but home fans don`t.
So how could Plainmoor pump up the volume and become an intimidating place where the Gulls love to play?
NOISE
Pre-match
1. Get a new sound system.
2. A new announcer that can whip up a crowd.
3. 30 min request slot to get the fans in and buzzing before a game. It`s no good just putting on a track. It needs a build up and interaction to get the fans singing along and feeling they are at a club rather than a ground.
Being an old git that can`t stand R & B I loved the likes of
"if the kids are united", "hey Jude" etc
Bristol city played the worzels drink up ye cider , Ipswich have "never felt more like singing the blues" could utd do something similar?
4. Team announcements - jazz em up.
During the game
1. Acoustics in the pop are not ideal. Is the Babbacome end better? Always felt it odd that the vocal fans are on the side of the pitch.Should be behind the goal. How many clubs will bring over 300?Is there any merit in using the Babbacombe end for some games?
2. Young gulls -Allocate part of the pop side (Ellacombe end) to youths only eg under 15`s. encourage them to bring flags, drums, horns etc. Stewards can control access in/out of the area.
Parents if they want to can oversee from the family stand or pop stand. Kids will be less inhibited if there are no adults. They should be encouraged to make as much noise as possible all game long.
Many clubs have a youth connection eg Ipswich have "Blues Crew"
Young Gulls
1. Paid membership
2. Cards sent on birthdays
3. parties at the ground including a tour
4. meet the players
5. cheap admission for members eg £1
6. section in the programme
7. Encourage them to come up with ideas.
I remember the singing and surges in the mini stand. Why not try and re create it.
If the word got out that Plainmoor was a good place to go who knows more might want to come along.
Don`t make the mistake of the Council and hope that crowds will come. Football is in the entertainment industry and you have to put on a show.
It`s no good begging them to come along only to witness a boring 0-0 game with a quiet crowd.
PASSION
Great opportunity to jump on the Kevin Hill legend band wagon.
Seattle Seahawks boast some of the noisiest and craziest fans in American football. The franchise recognised this and gave them a squad number. a flag flies proudly above the stand with the fans number on.
Fans feel they are part of the squad because they know their noise can put off other teams.
So why not give no.11 to the fans. Imagine seeing kids wearing utd shirts with 11 on the back. corny but you need to capture the youth and get them away from the dross of the premiership. If you are afraid to disrupt the first 11 why not use no.12. The 12th member of the team is the fan.
STEWARDs
They must be Utd fans or neutrals and invisible. ie at the back of the stand where they can see what is going on and not cause provocation.
Don`t get me wrong I`m not suggesting we need to develop a hostile crowd. you can have a noisy passionate crowd that is also respectful and law abiding. Set them a code of conduct if you like. Any who act inappropriately get a warning followed by a ban/fine
A tremendous amount of hard work has been done behind the scenes, which the fans are really grateful for. But now it is time to celebrate and enjoy following the Gulls, not walk away from a game feeling it was a let down. Which lets be honest there were a few at Plainmoor last season.
Everyone wants promotion, so why not think of the whole package which could make the difference to the players. If you have any doubts ask the players what sort of crowd they want to play in front of.
Phew I think I better stop before my soap box collapses under the weight of this post.
Thanks for taking the time to read it.
