Perhaps you should read your posts out loud as you write them. Then should this occur again Polly could just recite it back to you!

I said that if Bucks had indeed dressed down Green in front of the whole team, that I felt it was wrong, I also stated that maybe Bucks feels he needs to hammer home he is the manager and I feel its only fair I explain what I mean. I want to answer the post made by tufo01 about Phillips and give a view point to consider, but first I just want to pick up on what merse has said.
Yes there are some who need to grow up and learn how to take defeat and any disappointment when they come their way. Green should have shaken Bucks hand, but he did not and one would hope might feel by not doing so,looked bad and and would be get judged on it. But we all have had to learn how to deal with things in life and they have to happen before we really learn, when did we ever take good advice when we were young, only the hard lessons ever really taught us anything in the end.
As a young man in Newton I was considered to be good on the snooker tables and there was one man who was disliked by everyone, a real big head and cocky sod, who really needed bringing down a peg or two. Then one day he challenged me to a match, it sure got plenty of interest in the club I played in.
I'm not the sort of person who would ever like to look some fool, yes I play the fool often but everyone knows I'm just a clown at heart. If I had felt he would beat me and because of his arrogance etc then I would not have taken up the challenge, why? because I would not let him have the satisfaction of saying he beat me, not playing him would have only given him a hollow and worthless type of victory.
I knew I was the better player and could not wait to get on the table and shut his mouth up, he deserved to be brought down.I do not know what happened to my game, but I was missing balls I could pot with my eyes closed, while he seemed he could not miss any shots he took on. Yes he beat me and boy it hurt so very much as I knew I should have wiped the floor with him.
Now I had to decide my next action, I knew what I had to do, I walked up to him shook his hand said he played a great game and deserved to win, the point was it was true no matter how I was feeling inside. I then left the club and really wanted to bang my head against the wall, so angry with myself as I had let me down and I don't like doing that.
One would hope that players like Green will learn from his experiences and learn to do things the right way and not the wrong way.
Right some things to think about re Phillips and Buckle.
Bucks and Phillips became friends long before Bucks was made the assistant manager at Exeter and its well known that Phillips and Tisdale were not the best of friends. tufc01 is right when he said Phillips tole him that he was good friends with Bucks, because he was, but there lies the problem as far as I'm concerned.
On another post I made on this thread, I stated that I now enjoy a better working friendship with my boss and that also includes my fellow work mates. Those friendships are work ones only and not private ones, I only ever want my boss to judge me on my work and I would never want to be his best friend and then expect to get favors or special treatment.
I do believe that Phillips had a problem with Bucks now being his boss as well as his friend, it would explain to me his anger and real frustration when we was substituted and may be not even picked for the side. This is the reason the friendship broke down and I will defend Bucks here and say he was only doing what a manager should be doing.
Now the next question has to be, should Bucks even be friends with his players, my view is that you can be friendly and have a good laugh with the players, but lines really do have to be drawn as to how close any manager gets to the players. One thing in Bucks defense over Phillips was that they were already mates, it sure helped to get Phillips here, but I wonder If Bucks now feels that having mates and having them as your players is a good idea.
That is the reason I feel Bucks may well be taking a harder line, I still think he is slightly off track in his approach, but that is only my views and ones that may not be shared by anyone at the club.We only need to look how sadly things turned out with the club sponsor and the pain and hurt felt by both sides, events that may not have happened if things had just been kept to the business side of things and had not developed into personal friendships.

Surely Dave, it's LUNCH, Dinner is later!! Well thats a whole new debate Phil I'm sure I'm not alone here and maybe fellow Newton boys will let us know it they agree with me, Merse petef etc, but dinner time is at 12 o'clock and the next meal is called teatime and not the teatime some think happens at 4 o'clock, so for me my teatime is really my main meal, I do not call it my evening meal as I often have before 6pm. I think you have got it wrong mate

Throughout every incident there appears only one constant variable - Paul Buckle. Of course there's only one constant variable - Paul Buckle. He's the manager! There is only one of them so he's bound to be involved, doesn't make him a villain. Are you answering my post in stages! I'm not making him out to be a villain - My thoughts on this mirror my general thoughts on Paul Buckle. He has done well, up to a point. However, at times his inexperience has shown and i is clear he is still on a steep learning curve. Some people get very uncomfortable with the slightest suggestion that Paul Buckle is not some kind of Super Hero who has saved us from extinction. I don't blame him for these disputes, I don't want him sacked when we lose a game or two, I just recognise that as a human being he is prone to errors of judgement. As the one constant variable in the numberous rumoured disputes is it so bad to suggest that PB may not be totally blameless or could have handled them in a different way?

Well my topic certainly caused a reaction. But only Dave picked up on what for me was the main point. PB`s man management during games ie substitutions. My thought was perhaps if PB used his subs more often it would provide rest for some, maintain interest for fringe players, and may help finish some games off rather than take the cautious approach. I agree with Dave it does require you to be positive and bold and can leave you open to egg on your face. I see some have used Sir Alex as a yard stick. I agree he doesn`t suffer fools as he may see them. But he also isn`t afraid to use his subs. Do you think if PB gave more match time to his subs that they would respond in a more positive manner and may serve to keep those on the pitch on their toes?

Buster... I think your thread is very admirable, and I myself have heartily joined in but I think it's been hijacked by the foodie's for some bizarre reason? Now must dash, time for high tea...

Enzo, it has always been the case that any remarks about Bucks will just be seem as some form of criticism and I never understand why the defenders do not use the same argument that Bucks is young and on a learning curve. No make a post and say Bucks may have got this wrong or that wrong and you may just find you get labeled anti Buckle and this is so far from what you were saying. Buster, As the thing about Green has happened this week you can understand why a thread called man management would be the one used to discuss Green etc.I think you wanted views on substitution's etc but then maybe the thread title should have been manager skills or manager tactics As I said I do now feel that with such a large squad, getting more players on as subs during games, may well help to keep more players happy, but we all know that Bucks will be dammed if he does and dammed if he does not. It really can be a no win situation for him at times. Saying that how many time do we see games where managers make substitutions and then get praise as the change brings a goal and the team get the win. Yet we have seen games where a player we thought was doing well gets taken off and the team seems to lose its way and gets beat. All part of being the manager, but I can tell you I'm glad its not me who has to stand in the firring line.
