The thing with me is that I work for a very small company(only five full time and one of the bosses wife works part time)so my wages are nothing to write home about, but I love my job as I'm left completely free just to get on with it. Carol also works part time, one to help our joint income and two it is so important for her to just get on with life as normal as possible.
All our income goes into one account and we do not have any separate bank accounts, that may not suit some people, but we base our lives together on pure trust and the wish to want to share everything. We do not have any HP, or have ever owned a credit card, we take the view if we do not have the money to buy what we would like, we go without. Mind you I have sometimes looked at some I know who maybe are driving around in brand new cars, or taking some great holiday that must have cost the earth, all while I know they earn no more than me.
But when things change in life, as they have now with the credit crunch, I look at how I can still afford to do what I want to do with in reason and am thankful that Carol and I have taken what we feel has been the most sensible route and one where we can sleep at night and not fear any late night knocks on our front door.
I don't think most people are really in any great financial trouble are they? so broke they can't afford to go to plainmoor, well yes I suppose they must be some who have sadly lost their jobs, but for those that are still working they may find they are now just a little better off, due to lower prices and interest charges.
So I really don't believe the latest drop in our gates is down to the credit crunch, I really don't know why they keep dropping, but I really would like to see what can be done to get them back up. Our last two games have seen a total of only 3400 fans in the ground, just over the average gate for only one game last season.
It really is a concern and one the club must be pulling its hair out over and I wonder what Ideas anyone can come up with, to try and get the numbers back up. Lowering prices is a non starter, we know the gates would have to go up high just to break even the money coming through the gate now. Maybe kids for a quid need to be considered, I have long argued that a family might not come due the the high expense, but make it cheaper for the whole family and it will be extra money in the till and not the lost money it is now.
Uncle Mike loved his bring along a friend shouts, but do they really work? is there a way it could be made to work by offering some sort of incentive? Ways have to be found as no club can survive and be really competitive on low gates, what ideas do you have?
