Tucked away in today's NLP article about Weymouth's 50p shares is a quote from manager Alan Lewer saying he's resigning after next Saturday's game. By that time he expects "five or six players" will have gone. Meanwhile Lee Power says - of the proposed deal - "it's not dead in the water".

I hope its not dead Barton and no matter what happens on the share sales, you can expect some players will be leaving soon. The bills have to come down and there is a large debt to clear and time is running out. If it is saved it can only end up part time and that would have to better than losing the club altogether

so how does it all work then, how did they realease the shares i mean where do they come from. Does that make them a PLC and everyone will own it. Of course they are not on FTSE100 lol but does they price go up and down womewhere or is it not like that?
I always wish i had shares in Torquay..anyone wanna sell me some?

Shares are not my thing Brett but I'm sure we have enough clever ones on here to give you the answer.

I must confess I left Weymouth disappointed this morning and based on the chats I had with several people, I now hold out little hope that Weymouth FC will be able to save itself.
I have five calls in and around the Gramby Estate, I only call on some of them if I have reason too, but today I called into three of the five company's who act as agents for us in Weymouth. While it was clear there was some anger by a few I talked to and that was directed at the man Curtis, not one cared enough about the club to consider buying any shares at all.
I must have sounded like I was working for Weymouth FC, as I tried to drum up some sort of feeling from them, but I might as well got a better response trying to sell some ice cream to some Eskimos. These were people who worked right next to the stadium, people who lived in Weymouth and many were born there.
I was talking with the manager of Jewsons, it seems over the years they have done a lot for the club, sponsorship, paints and materials to maintain the ground etc, but he also showed no real interest in the fortunes of Weymouth FC.
You may have noticed on here, that when merse slags of Torbay or its people, I tend to want to have a go at him, but there are some things I have said to him that I do firmly believe are true. The main one being that as we are football fans and the club means so much to me, we some how think any town would value its football club and would want to help it if they could.
But we would be so wrong to think that, so many people really do not like football, have other interests and as hard as it may be for us to except, they would not care if our club was lost forever.Merse would just say the club folding was the fault of the people of Torbay and tell us of some club where people did do something to save the town club, but I wonder how often that has really happened and how many clubs do just die.
I was trying to find out out many people live in Weymouth and then work out if there was enough to just buy £5 worth of shares each and If that would be enough to save Weymouth FC, I will have to find out later, but I would guess it would come pretty close. But if you can't get fit and active men both young and old, like the ones I talked with this morning to care or want to do anything to save the town club, you would have no chance with all the other non-football people who live in Weymouth.

I don't really want to be saying "I told you so", but...................when we played there on Boxing Day they had the cheek to wax lyrical about their "wonderful fans" and how they had "flooded back in numbers" to give them a crowd of some 2,300....................what bollocks, we had around a thousand there that afternoon so the reality was that on the traditionally highest attended game of the season they had but 1,200. All I seemed to encounter from speaking to locals that day was negativity and self pity - not the sort of attitude needed in the trench warfare of their situation. When they came down for the return local derby last Tuesday they brought a laughable 150 and that when they were in a relatively good run of results...................pathetic, absolutely pathetic. The Weymouth people moan that the only people who have shown interest in "their" football club are property people like Mr Curtis, but the FACT is that if Curtis hadn't come forward when he did they would have been dead by now. They knew he was a property man when he came in, they sat back and failed to provide any other alternative; what do they bloody expect - that he'll suddenly change his business ethos and become a philanthropist? Hasn't it filtered through to their thick heads that Lee Power and Colin Hill are also property people? Do they seriously think if messrs Power and Hill were in it for altruistic or even football business reasons they would be looking at a dead in the water club like them when there are plenty of clubs with potential and half lively populations surrounding them to get stuck into if they were that way inclined. Weymouth FC hardly covered themselves in glory with that unprofessional and myopic approach to their date at Plainmoor the other week...................how do they think THAT looks to genuine football people? Weymouth is no different than Morecombe, Torquay or Eastbourne for that matter in that they are sleepy coastal resorts with an unhealthy balance of retirees and self orientated small businesses who are as much use to a local professional football club as an ashtray on a motorbike. Yes, SOME small businessmen do and WILL come forward in towns like these, but it is hardly ever enough to compete with population centres where there is at least a decent spread of medium to large industry to provide a corporate and demographic bed of support. Fortunately for Eastbourne, Morecombe and Torquay (these days) there are some quality small businessmen who DO put their money where their mouths are, unfortunately for Weymouth there are no longer any of any significant number and the apathy of the local public is hardly likely to prise any more out of the woodwork.
