The absurdity of this arrangement has been demonstrated to the fullest extent today, with all of these eleventh hour and fifty ninth minute "deals" capturing so much attention.
Players are being lured away from their existing clubs by other clubs with greater financial resources, thus ruining the plans of managers hatched during the summer close season.
These managers then have to rush out and look for replacements from clubs which in turn have even less money to spend. Many of these replacements involve loans where players swap clubs in opposite directions. The whole process has turned into a ridiculous merrygoround.
In my opinion, it should be scrapped immediately and permanent signings should only be permitted between seasons. The loan system is available throughout the season and should provide sufficient comfort to clubs who lose players to injury, suspension or desire to leave owing to changed circumstances.

Its a difficult one really stewart and while I see your points, I think for a club like ours, it can be very useful having a January transfer window. Firstly we could have signed a player for the season, who turns out not as expected, maybe the player just does not fit in with the rest of the squad, could even be seen as a disruptive element. Having this window would be an opportunity to move that player on, not just for his own good, but also the club, who would only end up paying a players wages, who they were not going to ever play.
Secondly, if the club was in a good position in the league and felt it needed a new player or two, to really help push on for promotion, then the window would also provide that opportunity, loans are OK, but how many times have we seem players recalled and also at a time when losing the player has hurt us.
It will always be the case that any club with more money, will always get to pick and choose and will be able to take players away from clubs who can't offer the same deal. Its not fair I agree and it must make some managers pull their hair out.
In the top flight the clubs who do not have the big money will always end up having to sell their best players, such players would have been so important in the managers plans to keep the club in the top flight. As always in life its money that talks and sadly its the way it will always be.

I agree with Stewart on this.
If the transfer window didn't exist it would be fairer all round.
The squad that every team started the season with should be the squad that finishes the season.
If you sign a player that doesn't turn out as you would wish then tough, it was a bad decision and the manager should live by it.
If you signed a really good player then some other club would not be able to come and lure him away mid season.
Get your squad together pre season and if you have got it right then you will be successful, if you haven't then you wont be....simples.
