Starting on Tuesday we are all about to discover the real Paul Buckle and character of this squad. Knocked out of both cups in a week - there are no sideshow distractions this run in. The players generally have been magnificent after the appalling start to the season and its a minor miracle that things came back on track as quickly as they did but with so many improving sides snapping at our heals this is the time when real ambition and ability is tested. The main concern is that we are just not scoring enough goals and even creating enough clear chances in open play. Watching the pretty high quality match between Oxford and Cambridge made me realise there is very little between seven or eight of the better sides and many fast improving as the season wears on. I just hope we don't fade away even more dramatically this time around and we quickly need to rediscover the Coventry form and even more difficult , maintain it for the run in.

I think the team we have at the moment are good enough to reach the play-offs except in one position. We all know what that is! Because of our forwards lack of goal scoring ability at present, the rest of the team are thinking " what's the bloody point in passing to them lot when thay 'aint gonna score anyway?" So let's try something different! Thus we keep getting comments on the forum about the "forwards" having to go out of position to get hold of the bloody ball! And if I hear about Mat Green " running the bloody channels" one more time i'm gonna scream! He might as well be "swimming" the F***ing channel for what good he does! Get a quality striker( someone who knows where the back of the net is, from two yard or twenty yards and every distance in between) and then run the channels (aaarrgh) and pass the ball to him! About twenty seven hours left in the transfer window, and if at the end of that time we don't have a new addition to the squad, I fear for our season! Awaits barrage!

I was just about to reply to Pete's post and have just read weathergulls, so will reply to both in this post.
Pete we have to look at what happened in the second half of last season, after a great start and getting many good results, we soon got found out as a team who only played one way. Big long balls just thrown up the pitch and teams leaned how to stop us and as a result we stopped getting the same level of success we did up until Christmas.
This season in the first half we spend too many games trying out experiments with the team, that in my view should have been sorted in the preseason. We then got some success with playing Sills up on his own with Thompson playing just behind, but even that stopped working in the end. We did go back to that in the Lewes game, got a two nil win and then stuck with it for the Southport game and it clearly did not work in that game.
In the event of no new striker joining us before the window closes, I still feel we have players who have goals in them and if we play to their strengths better, then we will score more goals and then hopefully get the results we all hope for.
Weathergull, you fail to see just how good Green really is and as I have said before for him to score he needs to be in front of goal and not out wide all the time. Merse will say that by going out there he pulls a defender out wide and that will leave space in the middle. That is true but you then need your other forward or a midfield player in the right place around the box, to firstly use the free space and then hopefully get an effort in on goal.
I forget who we were playing, but in a recent home game the other team kicked off, hit it long and over to the left hand side, we won the ball and it was given to Sills on the halfway line. He hit a first time defense splitting pass, that Green raced onto and was then one on one with the keeper.
OK Green did not score and could have done better, but my point is that this is a real strength that Green has and its better to use is pace to make runs through the middle and onto goal, then ones from the center out wide left or right on the pitch. It was the same when we had Williams come here, he had a great scoring record, he did get a hat trick in his first game for us, but never got many after that.
Far to often he was never played the balls that his game needed and the only one game it happened, he came off the bench and scored two goals in injury time, balls played through the middle and into space for him to get onto and run at the goal. Give players the service that their game needs and the ones that suit their game better and you then will see the results and goals being scored.
