The Dripping Pan is very close to the Greenwich Meridian (less than a mile away). Can anybody name English grounds which are closer to that line? I've not done the full research but I've one or two in mind (some mentioned in recent threads, others not). This question was inspired by my visit to Peacehaven on Tuesday which stands slap bang on the Meridian, a fact celebrated by the presence of the George V Meridian monument:
On the side of this structure there's a list of distances to places throughout the world which - guess what? - all happened to be in the British Empire. According to Geograph the inscription reads: Peacehaven George V Memorial - erected by the inhabitants in the year 1936 to commemorate the beneficent and illustrious reign of their beloved sovereign 1910 -1936 and to mark Peacehaven's position on the prime meridian of Greenwich.
Peacehaven itself dates from towards the end of WW1. Part of it was built by a developer, the rest was sold off on a build-your-own-home plot basis. It's been described as "a rash on the countryside". It was nearly named New Anzac-on-Sea but it was reasoned the residents might not favour too strong a Gallipoli connection. Streets originally named after battlefields - such as Loos and Mons - were also later changed to something more pastoral.
Anyway regarding football on the Meridian, Mutlimap has Station Road, Lewes - which runs generally N-S close to the Dripping Pan - as 0:00:37E (about 0.8 km from the line I reckon).
I would have to say West Ham United. I seem to remember reading about their new stadium and how they wanted to build it so that the halfway line ran along the Greenwich Meridian.
Good one! Multimap says 0:02:18E so a bit further away than Lewes.

Millwall must be pretty close to GMT! Charlton as well.......The New Den is at 0:03:04W - the older ground would have been a little nearer. The Valley is positively in another hemisphere at 0:02:09E.
Budleigh's old Charlton ground - at The Mount near Catford - is a real contender at around 0:00:37W (bit of a photo finish with Lewes so an adjudication may be in order as both are approximate).
To the West, it has to be Leyton Orient
I'd thought of Brisbane Road and - yes - it's bloody close at 0:00:43W.
Another one I thought of - but it's not quite there - is rather further north. At 0:01:07W you wonder if the club's former manager would have bent the rules - even to the point of cheating - had there been any advantage to playing on the line.
