When I was best milkman of GB, I was presented the award by Lisy Webb, I think she was some fitness person on the TV at the time. I thought she was the Green Goddess, but checking on the net it appears I'm getting me morning exercise girls mixed up!! The only thing I can offer up on this thread is that I spend a summer working for Anthony Martin ... the father-in-law of Gywneth Paltrow ... selling caravan and camping accessories.

I have a photo somewhere of me and her together, I'll have to find it and put it up, I think she may have been famous for something else before the fitness thing.

My mum used to work behind the bar at the Princess Theatre, so I got to go to all of the end of season parties when summer season was finally over. But I got to meet some of the greats of British comedy; well if you count Jim Davidson, Roger de Courcey (and Nookie Bear), Les Dennis, Russ Abbot, Michael Barrymore (before he became a complete arse), Dustin Gee (died before his time), Jethro and Barry Cryer as greats. Dustin Gee was one of the nicest people I met as a young lad and I was so sad when he died so young, and just before his career was about to take off with a solo series. I also managed to spend time on stage with a couple of them; with Jim Davidson asking my folks if I had been fed on Fisons, since I was taller than him by the time I was 12, and with Roger de Courcey who did not (I REPEAT DID NOT) try to make me his new ventriloquist's dummy!!!!!! I've managed to meet plenty of TUFC players since then, sponsoring a few as well. Nicest of the lot was Mark Ford, who sadly never reached his potential at Plainmoor because of the knee problems that ended his career early, and Chris Brandon who gave me a signed shirt despite that apparently not being part of the deal back then. But most memorable was meeting Roy McFarland and the sadly departed Dave Preece in the Halifax car park. Not for all the shenanigans with some of the players that have been dredged up by plenty of people since (quiet Merse) but for the fact that they all cared so much about the club, not like some of their staff! Same goes for Kevin Dearden as well - a true gentleman. Now with working at Sky, I mix with sports celebs a lot. Often bump into the likes of Kenny Sansom, Dave Bassett and Clive Walker to name but a few. It's a good life I live really

The Green Goddess was Diana Moran. Think she was on the BBC Breakfast show while Lizzie Webb was on GMTV. And then it all went horribly wrong with Derrick Evans, aka Mr Motivator!

Lucky boy Andy having a mum work at the theatre, now about Michael Barrymore, I do have a tale to tell about him and me. I went to see his show at the princess and was sat on the front row. Without any notice he just started on me and then told me I had to get out. He came down from the stage and grabbed hold of me, putting me out of sight by the exit doors on the left hand side.
I waited for a while and nothing happened so I just walked back to my seat and sat down, he was down of the stage again, telling me he had made it clear I had to clear off. Once again I waited and nothing happened again, so this time I crawled along the floor, out of his sight and got back to my seat.
He saw me and was down again only this time he pushed open the exit doors and pushed me outside, I really believed it was for real this time and stayed there for a while. In the end he came and got me back. This was at the time I loved this man and he was so funny and I do feel its such a shame how he ruined what someone like me would have died for.

I was at college with Tanita Tikaram. Are you responsible for a twist in her sobriety then?

Last year Alex Stepney did the talk at the Riviera Centre for the TUFC Gentleman's dinner. I was the auctioneer for the charity auction, as well as being a fee paying guest, and decided as I live in East Devon to stay at the Grand, thinking I may have the odd beverage or two... (Those who witnessed the aforementioned auction may feel I'd already had my fair share before I strode onto the rostrum!) Anyway, Mr Stepney was staying at the Grand as well but as it got to the end of the evening a message came through to say that his booked taxi was unavailable for some reason. As it was known I had one booked for myself I was asked if I would mind sharing mine with the God who is Mr Stepney. Being of fair mind and not wishing to see a good man stranded I, of course, offered. So there I am, outside the doors of the ERC making small talk with AS when the taxi arrived. Out popped the driver who did a double take, opened the rear door and said 'It's an honour to take a legend such as yourself in my taxi'. I smiled, thanked him and then asked if it was ok for Mr Stepney to come along as well! (For those interested, that joke fell flat...) Anyway, we get back to the hotel, it's about 1.30 by now, and I pay the man, get out of the taxi and shake Alex by the hand (we were on first name terms by now) at the same time wishing him a good night. He looked at me with a smile and told me not to be so stupid, surely the bar was still open? I then spent the next few hours sitting there chatting away with this goal keeping legend & hero of mine (he played in the first football game I ever saw, the 0-0 draw against Manchester Utd in 1972, the game that made me want to be a TUFC supporter). He told some great stories that he could never put in his speech as well as chatting away about life in general! All in all a most memorable time.... in fact, the best I've ever had at the Grand (well, thinking about it... there was New Years Eve, 1982... called Cilla if I recall, met at Monroe's night club.... )
