Today was the biggest game of our recent history but where was I? Not at the game. Why? Because I didn't believe we would get that far in the FA Cup I agreed to the wife having a day out with her friends and I had to baby sit the twins. If we had drawn a big one things may have been different but I agreed not to go.
The day started by waking up with my face pressed hard against the bedside cupboard because the twins had come in to bed with us in the night and they had decided to spreadout giving us little room. they were sleeping peacefully and these moments are to be treasured.
We got up, watched Mickey Mouse and then prepped veg for sunday lunch. bored yet?
Got James up at about 11.30 and off out in the car. Lunch at MacDonalds and then off for a drive.
Got a call for Calvin (later featured on Radio 5 Live) letting me know that I might be able to see the game on the net but I was in Caerphilly.
Drove up the valleys through Ystrad Mynach, Bargoed and Rhymney. Girls fall asleep about 2.45. We tune the radio into Radio Devon to hear the game. Reception terrible. the game starts as we hit the Heads of the Valley road A465. We sound as if we are on the ropes early on.
as we pass Merthyr Tydfil we seem to be getting into the game. We drive through Aberdare and we are on top. the reception disappears altogether and we start stressing as to what is happening. We hear the odd name between the sound of ethnic music and the annoying crackling.
At last, we are on top of Aberdare mountain and we park up and listen to the second half. what a cracking start to the second half. We are dominating. suddenly we are surrounded by 8 cars full of the local youth in Chavmobiles. James looked worried, i locked the doors just incase they were the Aberdare Athletic 1927 revenge squad. (James was wearing his TUFC shirt!!!!)
Reception suddenly gets worse as huge black clouds roll in. The girls wake up and demand chocolate buttons to keep quiet.
We start driving home with intermittent signal. I park outside the house and James goes in to fire up the computer. disaster they score. How can we dominate so much but lose at the death.
I feel empty!!
Great showing on telly which encourages me once more. tomorrow the hope will return and we start again
why do we do it? Wouldn't it be easier to support Man Utd and win every week?
No, we love it. Keep football real
