With the announcement today that Rev Comps will be sponsoring our shirt this year, it was a good day to launch a new page on this subject on Torquay Fan Stats. The page can be found here: www.torquayfanstats.com/shirt-sponsorsProbably should have done this prior to publishing, but it was an opportune moment given the announcement... I have back until 1991 on there at the moment, and actually I can see our Sherpa Van 1989 kit was Mod Dec sponsored as well, and the Centenary History has a picture of the 1987/88 kit and that was Mod Dec too. Does anyone have a definite answer for when our first shirt sponsor was and who was potentially in place before Mod Dec? Also a semi-related question, when was our first replica strip?

Also a semi-related question, when was our first replica strip? I'm going to start the ball rolling with this one. I bought a copy of the classic 1974/75 blue/yellow/blue striped shirt back at the start of that season. I need some geography advice here. I recall that Ted Tuckerman sports was based on Victoria Parade and had an elaborate tiled frontage. I believe Mike Sangster Sports was up Torwood Street on the left, possibly where Ollie's is currently. I didn't like Sangster's Sports, and I have no idea why. Perhaps there never was a logical reason. I preferred another sports shop, whose name I can no longer remember, that was somewhere along Fleet Street, roughly where The Terrace joins it, possibly number 10 or 12. I am absolutely positive that I first saw the new shirt in that unnamed Fleet Street sports shop but, horror of horrors, it was a single blue and yellow stripe on white: yellow/blue rather than blue/yellow/blue. I wasn't going to buy a shoddy false copy: imagine the embarrassment and scorn that would befall me on the Mini Stand terrace! Sangster's Sports did have the correct stripes so I bought it there instead. I am absolutely positive that the incorrect yellow/blue shirt had the correct cut-out v-neck, whereas the correct blue/yellow/blue kit I bought had an incorrect filled in v-neck. Neither had the umbro badge on them. Others may have knowledge of earlier replica shirts than 1974 but its a start.
