Many thanks. A very good interviews, and so was this morning's with John Acres. Two things really impressed me and the first was the willingness to get an expert in to cover the footballing side of the club. Far too many owners think they can be managers, or at least talent-spot, and its refreshing to learn that our new owners recognise that football is not their area of expertise; and instead will have an expert on the board to run the playing side. That that expert is qualified-referee Neil Warnock is even better. I would be stunned if there is anyone who knows as much about how to get promoted AND how to avoid relegation as Warnock does. His contacts are also wide and varied. I heard a story about when he took the Cardiff job on that he rang Sol Bamba and told him to pack his bags because he was moving. Apparently Bamba said okay before bothering to ask where he was moving to. I don't know how true that story is, but I think it reflects the respect players have for Warnock. I'm not expecting him to bring any of his ex-players to Torquay, but I'm sure he has a very long list of good players with the majority willing to play for Warnock wherever he goes, and that will benefit us. The second thing that impressed me was the question of full- or part-time. Michael Westcott sensibly referred that to his football team and repeated that this morning. One thing that I had thought from Saturday was that we could have a mix: say 18 to 20 full-time players topped up with some part-time players as and when needed. There's no logical reason why a squad can't have a mix of both and I was pleased that Michael mentioned that option this morning. It's another positive mark that he didn't get caught up in the controversy of which is better and simply said that there is a budget to spend and it is the footballing sides job to spend that wisely. Clearly John Acres was pitching for a centre-back job, and presumably he would only be available on a part-time basis! All round, an impressive start to the round of media interviews for Michael. Can we call him Mike?

We have wasted a huge wage bill advantage this season and I am sure any new owner will have no alternative but to cut the player wage bill. That can be done whilst very much still remaining a very big fish by National League South standards. The question is : how do you get best value for money? I would like to see the appointment of a manager with experience of being at the top end of National League South and for him to be given a reasonable budget and asked how best he thinks that should be spent in order to deliver promotion. I don't think it is sensible to insist that players MUST be entirely full-time or part-time. It is all about getting value for money. The second thing that impressed me was the question of full- or part-time. Michael Westcott sensibly referred that to his football team and repeated that this morning. One thing that I had thought from Saturday was that we could have a mix: say 18 to 20 full-time players topped up with some part-time players as and when needed. Great minds ..... The business people set the budget and the football people decide how best to spend it. You would not want bloody accountants dictating training schedules would you? That would be madness.

Or more likely that your idea lodged in my subconsciousness and was retrieved by my thieving brain as my own idea. You would not want bloody accountants dictating training schedules would you? That would be madness. Well, exactly. God forbid!

Or more likely that your idea lodged in my subconsciousness and was retrieved by my thieving brain as my own idea. Actually, I was thinking of Michael Westcott when I said great minds, but happy to have you in the great minds club along with Chelstongull - although that leaves me as the only Shiphay boy amongst three Chelstonians. It was at the beginning of March that two of my TUST colleagues first met up with Michael before the game at Weymouth. I was a little taken aback by their initial reports of him as they seemed too good to be true and feared it might be a case of hope over reason, clutching at a straw in a crisis. I should have had more faith in them. As I have got to know Michael, just about everything he says about football, business, ethics, etc. aligns pretty much exactly with my own thoughts. I am pleased that the wider fan base is now hearing what he is about. There will always be the few professional moaners, but I am certain that the vast majority will like what they see. I cannot overstate the severity of the crisis in to which the consortium walked. I am confident that we could not have a stronger team to tackle that crisis and give us the kind of club we all want. I have observed in life that those most desperately in need of help and advice are least likely to take it and vice versa. We have a wider skill set amongst this consortium than we have had for years, possibly ever. I am sure they would do a reasonable job if they cut everyone off and did everything themselves. But they don’t want to do a reasonable job, they want to do a great job and they will draw on all the help and expertise they can to help them to do that.

link - what a difference in the mood music at the club! Many thanks to all those who have volunteered to help spruce up the club and hopefully we can roll into action sooner rather than later.

link - I see Richard Hughes on Devon Live is talking about how things at the club are so much better in respect of the new ownership. He even went as far as to say what were the administrators thinking by not selecting the Bryn consortium as the preferred bidder in the first place? The answer to that question is very simple; they were are not acting in the best interest of the club and fans, but in the best interest of the creditors. As it happened, Bryn had to rework their bid and make improvements to their initial offer, i.e. settle debts to local businesses, etc. within six months. That opportunity is very unlikely to have arisen if the administrators did not have concerns about their initial preferred bidders or when it came to the crunch, they were just not prepared to put in the necessary time and investment, will be interesting if that story ever does come out. I see the administrators fee has been settled around £149,000, think that will include the legal fees for the solicitor acting on their behalf who took on the case at risk. Maybe could have been better, but I know in other similar circumstances where it has been a lot worse. Of course, significantly added to the cost of getting the club out of the Mire it became entrenched in. Hopefully, at the end of next week, we will come out of administration then we can look forward to more mundane matters, such as what players will be signing for us going into the next season.
