link - The club have issued a statement confirming they have held a meeting yesterday with Torbay Council to outline plans for new ground. Looks like there will be a degree of consultation prior to a full planning application been submitted.

TUAFC STADIUM ANNOUNCEMENT Following yesterday’s club statement regarding a potential new stadium for Torquay United, TUST welcomes the club’s openness in keeping supporters informed, as promised in the recent online fans’ forum. TUST supports the continued use of Plainmoor but are open to alternative proposals providing they clearly indicate a sustainable long-term future for TUAFC within the local community. We recognise the need to maximise potential use of the club’s facilities and look forward to hearing more details so that fans are fully informed. We are willing to work constructively with the ownership to consider any plans to relocate the club providing that such plans are transparent and realistic. We await news of the Steering Group where TUST’s involvement, along with other supporters, will be able to discuss, amongst other topics, the club’s heritage and stadium plans. Even a good idea on the surface will have many potential pitfalls, and the devil is always in the detail. Also, remember that Clark Osborne has previously stated that he would move on after any stadium project so what will the club look like then? |

Does anyone know this Mark Horler character?
Not sure if he is a wind-up merchant or not.
Bit tired of the same old arguments. Seven years of it now. Have probably said all that needs saying many times over. You can read the history on here. Maybe I should just copy and repaste all that was said seven or eight years ago.

This is Kevin Foster's thoughts in his weekend news update regarding the latest club meeting with the council. Quite a different viewpoint. What anyone thinks about his politics can not deny that Kevin is very well aware of the situation and it is good to see his involvement and of course he does often watch United when not attending Parliament. New Stadium For TUFC?, 6 years ago, Torquay United FC first announced a plan for a new stadium to replace the historic Plainmoor Stadium. It’s safe to say the plan unveiled in 2018 did not stand up to even the most basic scrutiny and was quickly shelved. Yet this week the prospect of whether a plan for a new stadium may be brought forward was much discussed online following a briefing for Torbay Council by the club, with the club issuing a statement following the discussions being shared online. You can read the club’s statement by clicking here. From speaking with the Council’s Leadership, my understanding is the Council gave the club a polite hearing, but nothing else. My understanding is the Council Leadership repeated their position on Plainmoor's freehold not being on the market and queried how the club planned to fund any such development. Overall, it is interesting to hear of this renewed commentary from the Club about a new stadium, yet I retain a healthy scepticism given how the last "new stadium" plans quickly fell apart when subjected to even the most basic scrutiny. Fans views must also be heard on any changes. Overall, any new stadium plan must be right for the long-term future of TUFC (Eg The Club owning its ground and getting non-matchday revenues) and based on realistic business plans, not just optimism and shiny graphics. As many update readers will know, I saw first-hand at Coventry City Football Club (CCFC) what can happen when a new stadium plan goes badly wrong due to wishful thinking replacing solid financial planning, with many promised regeneration benefits also not materialising. It’s not something I want to see repeated at TUFC, hence any new stadium plan must be in the club’s and fans long term interest. |

But I fear he is not a wind up, Jon, and enjoys his ‘chats with George and Mel’. Will take a look to see what Kevin Foster says while listening to the commentary. Edit: Yes, very good update both from him on there and also Adrian Sanders’ thoughts in an earlier thread. |

George Edwards will be absolutely delighted to have found somebody who actually believes everything George says and is so active on social media. Mark will be extremely popular at Plainmoor. The right kind of supporter. Intelligent enough to string a sentence together but very easily led. |

Mark Horler is real but has always been an apologist for Osborne. Goodness knows why but like the local media who give the club owners and management such an easy ride, there is probably some wish to retain a cosy relationship of some sort.
