It's a shame its been leaked to the press at this stage or at all. More column inches of trite nonsense and unnecessary dragging up of the matter further in public. Not good for anyone, particularly the bereaved family. I agree with merse 100 percent. I can also understand a local FA wishing to "seek advice" - nothing more - from HQ.

I grew up in a world where punishment meant just that, maybe if those who offend had to pay a much higher prices than they do now( IE community service etc) then we would not live in such a lawless society as we do these days.

I would like to point out that it wasn't me on my own that refused to register Luke McCormick from the outset, I sought advice from my fellow officers of the SDL first & it was a unanimous decission that the SDL would not accept his registration until we had sought FA advice on the situation as the SDL didn't want to gain any bad press from this situation. We duly sought that advice and have taken note of what the FA have said & duly registered Luke. Thanks for letting us hear it from "the horses mouth" Anthony, as that's how it was first put over on here but by a "third party" but I don't think that if the first party is available they should make every effort to be that messenger. I am sure we all respect your actions, not an easy situation.

I will further add merse that I will ignore this line you wrote The Village idiot who got pissed on cider and committed bestiality and then went home and committed incest with his little sisterWhy did you not write the City idiot who got pissed on larger You also wrote knows the circumstances of this prisoner through a third party yet this story came from a third party and how quick were you to start judging Ant. I rest my case.

I doubt it. And I would add that I doubt prisoners denied recreation during their sentence would make well-rounded rehabilitated individuals on release. National publicity surrounding this is unnecessary and, as I mentioned before, hardly in the interests of the bereaved. Those wanting "key thrown away" tougher sentences should consider, at least for a nano-second, that the prison population is full to bursting already. Though inevitably that would be before changing the subject to a selection of the following:- The Birch; Hanging; The Kray twins; Foreigners taking our jobs; Thatcher etc...

The Birch; Hanging; now your talking my language Rob,believe me there was a time when going to prison meant hard labour, sadly its all to soft in prisons these days, the gym at Channings Wood is better than any others I have seen. Rehabilitation you say? made it so they won't ever what to return, that will for sure rehabilitate them

They all have DVDs and TV's in their cells and get all the films they want from their library, while they do not have their freedom and have to deal with prison life(other inmates etc) the rest in there looked like an easy life to me.

My personal feeling is that it is inherently wrong for someone to be judge and jury on how a prisoner spends their tariff. If McCormick was an accountant would it be expected that he was banned from doing maths? Channings Wood are accepted into the football fraternity in a spirit of goodwill and whatever one of their players - any player, has done to be in that establishment is of no business of anyone outside just what he is there for. It is for the Prison Governor to decide whether or not anyone is unsuitable for recreational activities in the community and his decision has to be respected. Because a prisoner is of a particular profession it does not warrant singling him out for ostracising, just as it wouldn't for any particular ethnicity or faith. When I lived in Devon I used to voluntarily go to both Channings Wood and HMP Dartmoor for internal sports activities and not once did I ever enquire just what any individual was inside for...................if they wanted to broach the subject - fine; but really it was none of my business but I can tell you there was a much higher profile football personality than McCormick in there during the time I was visiting, and I don't think he ever expressed a wish to play in SDL football. did I dream it or was Peter Storey in Channings Wood for fraud?

They have freeview on the wings at Cannabis Wood, I know I had to repair it when it went wrong and on the way out to show their appreciation they tried to stitch me up by pretending to know me and asking at the top of their lungs in front of the screws if I had their drugs they had ordered. They soon shit themselves when I got my Est.wing hammer out and started to walk towards them, should have seen the screws face, priceless! The scum I came across in that Nick fully deserve to be there without any privileges, smack-heads and shitbags. There is possibly one or two wings in there that could harbour an inmate or two who would benefit and deserve too be give such a privilege but the main percentage of them I wouldn`t piss on if they were on fire! So to generalize like some of you have about inmates is in my opinion completely wrong, every one of them needs to judged on merit by those who know what there like ie. the people that have the misfortune of having to work around them!
