I dread to think where we are going to be after 10 games. Not sure what the league below us is called...but think I will start checking. It's the Southern League Premier South, playing such clubs as Plymouth Parkway (if they stay up) and Tiverton Town.

Well, all that preseason optimism has gone out the window after a shockingly bad performance, where without Lapslie and Dawson the midfield went missing and we were unable to build any pressure or coherent play with the Worthing goalkeeper, relatively untroubled whereas Halstead will probably be claiming overtime tonight, so over worked he was and fully deserving of the player of the match award despite being the only suitable contender. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the final whistle to look up and see that we had only lost 3-0 as we were continually overloaded at the back after going 2 goals down and a more clinical side would have notched up an embarrassing cricket score.
Didn’t think Worthing were that great, we made them look good and their players got a well deserved clap from Bristows Bench as they exited the pitch. Thought their first goal was well worked with a good cross that our inexperienced defence gave free rein for their striker to easily head home on the edge of the 6 yard box. Their substitute striker used his fresh legs to get away on the left hand side, cutting inside to shoot across Halstead, who was only able to deflect it into the net. The third goal came from Hall being too slow and indecisive in midfield getting robbed and pretty much summed the match up. The referee most have bloody good eyesight as she kept picking up fouls where I saw none but had no bearing whatsoever on the result.

You'll need to explain this phrase as many on this site, especially Chelston, won't have seen one of these for so long they've probably forgotten what one looks like...

Man himself, definitely not his finest hour! To paraphrase: "I told the players what was wrong, Downesy told the players what was wrong and the players told us what was wrong and we all agree so that's good." Which rather begs the question of why this wasn't all sorted out in July? Teams that discover they need to change their tactics and structure after a couple of league matches tend to finish at the bottom end of the table. We drew with Argyle who are currently unbeaten and 4th in the Championship. We thumped The Grecians who are currently unbeaten and 7th in League One. Perhaps they learned more from their games with us than we did. Not that this is news to anyone reading this particular forum...

Still stunned at that performance and result. I’ve been watching Torquay for almost 44 years and that is our worst result in that time. We’ve had some humiliations in the past, losing 1-8 to Scunthorpe, 3-7 and also 0-4 at home to Bromley but never have we been so outclassed at such a low level of football. Torquay United really are the club that keep giving when it comes to new lows.
Worthing are what they are: a part-time, decent team for this level but they shouldn’t even be on the same pitch as us,let alone our full time players getting so embarrassed.
And it was obvious from early on; in fact before this game, before this season - the bloody defence! We don’t have one. How any full time club can start the season with a defence of Tomlinson and Donnelan is just unfathomable. They were torn apart by a modest side who could have won by another four or five, so effortlessly they were slicing through our defence. We are giving teams a 2 goal lead before we start with that defence. It comes to something when you are mourning the loss of Ali Omar and all we have is Ross Marshall to come back and make things even worse.
Going forward we looked hopeless, long-ball to a disinterested Jarvis and anonymous Ash, while Worthing were playing these neat little triangles of passing all over the field. Fair play to them, they deserved their applause at the end and it felt like a training session for them by the time the game finished. Very definitely the most embarrassing result I’ve witnessed in 44 years but probably the first of many.
I don’t see how GJ can recover from this and my hope is that he is able to depart with some dignity and not tarnish completely what he did do for us. I doubt however, that changing the manager will change anything. This is Clarke Osborne we are talking about after all.

I remember the 1-8 defeat against Scunthorpe refusing to leave the pop side till O’riordan got the sack , Bateson on the pitch telling the fans he will sort it . Poor old Don got the boot after a play off season the term before . Johnson had 1 good season out of 5, how longer would he have kept his job at any other club at this level with a full time playing staff. Time to go Gary and start that Universal Credit diet

Stubbs back but Lapslie out. I realise Robin was exceptional back in the day but surely his legs have gone ! But yes theres a striker for the bench if you must...

Like Chelston I can’t bear to listen to Gary Johnson’s (the “Gaffer’s”🤮) reflections. There has to be something fundamentally wrong in the dressing room when a manager can’t motivate or organise the players for the big games. And unfortunately with this being the first home game of the season, given that we are now in the 6th tier and the bookies favourites to win the league and having thrown away a two goal lead to draw the opening game of the season, this was a big game. To then serve up that woeful performance in front of an expectant 2,628 home fans! There’s no doubting that Gary Johnson was a good appointment 5 years ago but is there any club that would have stuck with him through the performances and then relegation of last season? If we are relegated again, and on yesterday’s performance that’s not unlikely, a stadium of Plainmoor’s size will be unsustainable.

Cant recall any larger than life characters in his squads. The ones that have had an opinion are soon hoiked out of the club and why we have no big characters who can stamp their authority on a game any more. Some good players have come in and quickly mysteriously disappeared over the seasons a couple who playing for the opposition yesterday. I bet they enjoyed that result. The last thing i wanted to hear in that post match interview was "We all agreed what was wrong". That tells you all you want to know.

It is glaringly obvious what is wrong. We need solutions..not excuses. Enough is enough.

Highlights are up... It doesn't get any better watching the video.. an utterly shambolic and amatuer performance sadly opitomised by watching Asa Hall arguably our most techncally gifted midfielder treading water trying to recover and defend and then giving he ball away cheaply for their third. Watching the old legs struggle like that along with the naivity of the younger players can only mean one thing and that's a season of struggle. Truly awful to watch and there can only be one person to blame.
